See # 20.

I also think we’ve reached a point where the inflation brought on by Obama’s spending has created a situation where each social class has slipped a notch (the upper middle class became the lower middle class, the lower middle class became the working poor, etc.); many people can’t have a semblance of the life they had five years ago, even if they are still working, because stagnant wages coupled with inflation have them working harder just to buy necessities.

This election showed that too many people had nothing to lose by Obama winning.

I can’t understand why anyone on Free Republic wouldn’t support workers’ rights to strike. I don’t care how the companies deal with them (fire/replace them?), but I’ll be damned if someone tells me that I have to work a certain job. I work because I have a voluntary arrangement with a company to do so; when that is no longer satisfactory for either of us, then the relationship will end.

You're talking about it as though the individual workers were deciding to work or not. But that's not what happened.

With the union, it's all of them at the same time, and individual workers do not have the choice to work or not. If the union votes to strike, and you're a member, you strike.

Conservatives value individual liberty, like what you have described, not collectivist group-think. Unions are the very epitome of collectivism, and they hate individualism.

Oh, and unions destructive actions are backed by labor law, while the same actions, if performed by a company, would be illegal.

Unions seek to control a company essentially by blackmail. Either you do things the way the union demans, or they make all your labor vanish instantly. Even without a formal strike, they can achieve the same effect in different ways. It's a thuggish rule by force which destroys company after company.

“My fellow union members and I are not lowlifes!”

Looks like the rats took over both the house and senate in the Maine legislature. Whatever you’re doing to help the conservative movement in the state isn’t working.

What the fools paying the dues don’t seem to understand is that they are agitating the loss of their OWN jobs! The leaders are MARXISTS and have regard only for their own acquisition of POWER!

I did my part and helped out on a couple of campaigns.

And yes, the Rats took back both the state house and senate. The gay marriage issue brought out a lot of voters.
We should do better in 2014.

I really wonder what the unions are thinking?

I know they are still flush with excitement from the election, but several immediate factors did not go their way in the PR department.

1. Union goons turned away disaster relief workers who traveled to New Jersey and New York to help, because the relief workers were not unionized. That move angered a lot of Americans who only wanted to help others. It also made the unions look petty and small.

2. At Hostess, a company of fond memories in the American psyche, one union of 5,000 workers refused to negotiate a settlement, resulting in the company going bankrupt and 18,000 workers losing their jobs. Even given a second chance to respond to the public outcry of union selfishness, the union turned a deaf ear and let the piece of Americana die.

3. Unions at LAX are picking the busiest travel day of the year to stage a disruptive strike when most Americans only want to travel to be with their families for Thanksgiving.

These three incidents combine to tell a story of how leftist unions, and liberals in government, don't want to work with others, but only want to take and ruin.

Back in the late 70’s I had to fly out of LAX for the Christmas holiday. The flight out was cancelled due to fog so I had to stay at the Marriott at the airport and take an early flight the next morning (Christmas Day). That was the best part of my LAX/holiday experience.

Returning to LAX, just to get a shuttle van to get to the outer parking lot took @ 4 hours AFTER baggage claim. The lanes of traffic simply were not moving. I cannot even imagine it being worse, but SEIU will work at it.

How is this supposed to endear SEIU to the public? Like the anticipated Black Friday strikes at WalMart, I’m missing the objective of the unions’ activities.

“I did my part and helped out on a couple of campaigns.”

Good work, Mariner. See what you can do with electing a constitutional sheriff in your county. Having that protection means a great deal in what leftist rats can attempt in local villages.
