Rumors of NASA's secret discovery was having found the remains of Jimmy Hoffa have been dealt with a terse "no comment".

The fact is that NASA had screwed it up once before when the Viking landers in 1976 sent back indications of life but chose to ignore the analysis by the scientist at the time who claimed it was a life form reacting in the sample, but a re-test proved non-conclusive and left it as that but years later in their reassessment they over-ruled their decision indicating a life form on Mars had in fact been discovered.

So, now, when another opportunity comes along, they're not going to make a determination until they're absolutely positive, But from the article it seems the possibility of some form of primitive life form has indeed been discovered. Stay tuned.

Sounds like NASA is desperate to keep its funding, now that Russia is the leader in space. They could tell us they found little green men on Mars. That ought to get them back in the news and keep the cash flowing to this useless agency in these troubled financial times.

Sadly, NASA has a history of both making hyped up claims, presumably to keep funding coming in, (because some of their claims come during the times congress is looking at their budget), and having to walk back their hyped up claims later on when other scientists refute their work.

Whatever they are claiming, it needs to be verified by outsiders before people just accept it. And even if it is verified, it needs to be put into context.
