Study: Porn Stars More Religious, Have Higher Self-Esteem Than Other Women

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) — Stop thinking that all porn actresses are “damaged goods.”

A new study finds that female porn stars are more religious and have a higher self-esteem than other women.

The study, which was published in the Journal of Sex Research, concluded that these women do not fit the “damaged goods hypothesis.”

“In terms of psychological characteristics, porn actresses had higher levels of self-esteem, positive feelings, social support, sexual satisfaction, and spirituality compared to the matched group,” the study titled “Pornography Actresses: An Assessment of the Damaged Goods Hypothesis” concluded.

The study compared 177 porn actresses to a sample of women based on age, race and marital status.

According to the Toronto Sun, researchers shot down the ideas that women who work in porn came from broken families or hostile backgrounds.

The study also found that women working in porn tried more drugs, had their first sexual experience at a younger age and had more sexual partners than those in the sample group.

The study was conducted by researchers from Texas Woman’s University, Shippensburg University and Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation.

Christians are in for a big surprise when they see who is let into the Kingdom first, Jesus said: “The first shall be last!”
Am I really supposed to care who is first?
In is in.

BTW - what is your sick problem with church and Christians about?

You seem to be practiced and quite comfortable in judging others.

I don’t have a sick problem with Christians, I just find most of them to be very judgmental of others without knowing their circumstances, some struggle so, foster kids, you know? I just don’t believe one has to go to church, we all have a direct line to God. I should probably go to church, I’m sure there are good people, I just hate seeing ministers that take advantage of their flock, they are rare, but those like Jim Baker and TBN can do a lot of harm than good. My screen name is a play on words with IslamE it means Islam Is Lame, thanks for the heated debate, I agree with you, I shouldn’t have said “G-d bless the porn industry”, My foot is planted firmly in my mouth, sorry if I offended you or anyone else, I didn’t mean to.

Being skeptical that these folks are more spiritual and have higher self-esteem is not casting a stone, it’s dealing with their real state. If those prostitutes Jesus was hanging out with had been as godly or more godly than the faithful synagogue goers, He would not have referred to them as “sick” and needing a doctor.

Compassion for the lost does not require shutting off ones’ intellect. I would compare this study to manure, but manure is actually useful for something.

"You took me out of context, here’s an idea instead of going to church every Sunday, how’bout going to a prison and praying with someone who needs it or feed the poor!"

Why "instead"? Most Christians do both.

"I just don’t believe one has to go to church, we all have a direct line to God."

The Bible says to fellowship with other Christians. And we go to Church not for what it can do for us but for what we can do for it. God desires corporate worship. How are you going to know the needs and situation of other Christians if you don't fellowship with them on a regular basis? Finally, Church offers the most best opportunites to learn about and engage in organized charitable events and causes, and to support missionary outreach.

You’re right, the article makes it sound as if these porn stars are closer to God because of their sin, they are not, and I was wrong to say :”God bless the porn industry”, I should have said, “God help them stop”, I’m sorry if I offended, I misspoke, I don’t want their sin blessed.

The authors of the study obviously do not understand what “damaged goods” means.

I know many democrats with high self-esteem. Some of them are even pretty good people in some ways, but they are all damaged goods and are not worth pursuing* until they get “fixed”. (*since I’m single I’m referring to the democrat women in this remark)

Christians know their value to God and have NO reason to have poor self-esteem. They know who they are and what they're worth to Him.

That is NOT self esteem though.

Self esteem is saying "I am worthy just because I am me" which is a lie. We are are all no more than 10 pounds of sin in 5 pound bags. Useless and worthless by ourselves.

Self esteem is not gained as a result of achievement. It is not earned in any way. It is is a sickness akin to narcissism.

The only way we have any value is because God values us. But that is HIS esteem. Not self esteem.

One of this country's problems is we have so many children and young adults (and older adults for that matter) who have great self esteem but are absolutely worthless as members of society. We call these people parasites (47%) for the most part.

Some of the most religious people I’ve ever met are those that had to hit bottom to understand what religion can mean to them.

When all you have left is Faith, literally, it takes on a much deeper meaning.

You’re a poor judge of character if you think that we do not judge ourselves. We examine our consciences, confess our sins, and pray for God’s forgiveness, so I don’t understand why you would say such a silly thing, since you know Christian hearts and minds so very well, and all.
