Thanks; she came here as a kid, but is still very different than American girls. She was raised by old-school parents, and is raising our children in a similar manner (they are as traditional as children can be, but have no problems with schoolmates because many of them have imported parents as well).
Many Spaniards who came to the US in the early 1970s were from agricultural areas looking for work; they had no problem with Franco (who died in 1975 - most who opposed him had left Spain decades before), and Franco had basically prevented the 1960s from happening in Spain (as they ravaged the US and France). When they arrived here they were separated from the larger mainstream culture by language barriers, so they basically carried on as they had in Spain (as if it was 1950s America). Their grandchildren may be assimilated, but they themselves never were and I don’t think the first generation raised here will be.
I hope my sons meet nice traditional girls, maybe Middle Eastern Christians or old-school Latinas.
