Egypt's president pulls back on power decree, pushes referendum

Cairo (CNN) -- Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy early Sunday canceled most of a controversial decree that gave him sweeping powers, but vowed to press forward with a planned referendum next weekend on a draft constitution, an adviser said.

The move is an apparent attempt to end a political crisis that has spilled into the streets, pitting the president's supporters and opponents against one another and raising questions about Morsy's ability to lead the fragile democracy.

It was not immediately clear whether the offer, as announced by adviser Mohamed Selim el-Awwa, would be enough to mollify the opposition.

The development came after a meeting at the presidential palace that many in the opposition boycotted.

Egyptian authorities said at least six people have been killed in violent clashes in recent days, while the Muslim Brotherhood -- the group that backs Morsy -- has said eight of its members were killed.

The crisis erupted in late November when Morsy issued the edict allowing himself to run the country unchecked until a new constitution was drafted, a move that sat uncomfortably with many Egyptians who said it reminded them of ousted President Hosni Mubarak's rule.

CNN reporting Morsi has backed down on the expanded powers, but is still insisting on the referendum.

I’ve read the CNN story three times and i can find absolutely no specifics about which elements of his decree Morsi It’s been years since I took Journalism 101,but my profs would have humiliated me for writing a story with zero new facts and filled with well known bromides and glittering generalities.

Well, as far as I know, Egypt is still heading towards martial law. So that might be a fair assessment.

Maybe more like shifting the furniture around to give the impression of having taking a “conciliatory” stance.

The protesters rioting in front of Mohamed Morsi’s palace don’t seem like the type of folks who will simply blow out their burning flags and walk away peacefully just because Mr. Morsi has made a promise to cancel his foray into totalitarianism.

But if the protesters don’t stop rioting after Mr. Morsi’s statement, it will mean they won’t be satisfied until Mr. Morsi himself steps down, and then what?

“...the fragile democracy...”

If a stinking, murderous, piece-of-subhuman-muzzie-filth is involved, it’s NOT a democracy. It’s a caliphate nightmare, waiting to happen.

There are so many missing basic and vital details to news stories, they are often totally worthless spin. So sad.

Most people are accustomed to using the Internet to research for the missing details, if the story is important to them. What a state of careless and stupid our country is in. I thank leftist journalism in Universities. It’s so pitifully unprofessional.

Once, when leftists were running a Zimmerman-like witch hunt on a white high school principal in the South, before the Interent, I called the guy and asked him myself for missing details! This was in the 80’s. They were accusing him of canceling a prom because he was a white racist, against inter-racial couples. They were demanding a Black principal replace him.

I did not beleive the media story because I read that this was the guy who oversaw racial integration at the school in years past. Radicals posing as journalists were into doing a lot of unjust anti-white male hate stories and opportunity discrimination against white males back then.

I actually talked to the guy! Turned out he cancelled the prom because Black activists/gangsters in town threatened to shoot any inter-racial couple who showed up at the prom. He felt the student body was in danger and could not be protected from the Black radicals’ racial threats in the school and town!

I contacted a conservative columnist at the Boston Herald and demanded he set the details straight which really changed the nature of the media’s false anti-white story. Back then, the left owned all media and unhappy details of their racial witch hunts and hate scams were not covered. Most readers were onto them, but they just kept up a united frong on the race lies and power. The racist injustice against targeted white men back then was awful.

Civil war. The military wouldn’t kill Egyptians for Mubarak, they will never do it for Morsi. It will become a battle between Morsi’s friends and enemies in the streets.

With all these distractions, I’ll be surprised if we even know when Assad chemical bombs his own people. At least that civil war will be over, and we can focus on Egypt. Too much going on right now.

My white daughter/black son in law get all sorts of racial grief.

And it isn’t from white men.

The stories she tells me about the sheer hate she has gotten from black women is pretty amazing. But then it really does not surprise me. But since that does not fit the agenda to discuss, (and I am assured it is a VERY widespread occurrence with interracial couples) not a word gets said by ‘our betters’.

Exactly. The referendum - which he will undoubtedly win because - was the thing that the secularists and Christians were objecting to.

First of all, you can’t do a “referendum” on something that happened about 3 weeks ago. Secondly, it’s obvious that the “referendum” is simply a rubber stamp, and on top of that, I’m not sure how much the existing Egyptian laws provide for government by referendum. But that doesn’t matter, because his strategy is all worked out, and he’s not deviating at all.

The MB purged the military and even the police forces. Believe me, if Morsi tells them to kill their fellow citizens for him and sharia, they will.

That’s terrible! Racism is racism and it’s ugly to it’s core. Not everyone takes their racism to confrontation, violence and discrimination (abuse of power); but some do.
Any racism is too much. Especially for Christians and there is no excuse to justify the ignorance of whole race love (racial superiority) and whole race hate (racial inferiority).

The only way the left’s latest hate scheme and doctrines will stop is when decent White, Asian, Black and Hispanic Americans stand up to it since it is being successfully sold to the minority races in the left’s post-segration race hate for power game. All children are exposed to it in social studies and many in college. It’s really raising it’s ugly head right now.

I’m hoping the Zimmerman case will seep through to decent people who get angry about the racist lies from NBC racializing that case. The slander case is in court now. Zimmerman has to hide because of it but many innocent whites were attacked by blacks in cities who were jacked up on the media’s race hate from the incident. No one says a world about the death threats from the Nation of Islam!

It’s so disappointing that the Left won’t permit racism to die. They could promote the crazy utopian ideology to plenty of mush heads without the race division and hate.

Wanna know just HOW IRRATIONAL IT IS? And again, she tells me that this is ‘common’. Most heard line...

“Blond bitch be stealin all our men”.

...and then the freakout ensues. So as an experiment she dyed her hair. She tells me that things improved. She gets less grief. The SIL gets hit with “Hiyella”. and that he’s a race traitor. THIS is the result of “Liberal tolerance”.

Fortunately she’s an Iraq vet with SERE training. She can handle herself quite well. She HAS to.
