There are various emotions which are also called “love”, but these are often variable and sometimes fleeting.
Love is an act of the will, a commitment. Once it is made, the various feelings labeled “love” usually make their appearance. This time they are often mostly stable and permanent.
Commitment is far more important than “compatibility”, finances, physical appearances or even “hot sex”. Again, once there is commitment, these other things usually follow.
And “for the child” is a good enough reason. I wish they would stay together, they are only compounding their problems by splitting
