(CNN) -- The United States is to deploy 400 troops and two Patriot air-defense missile batteries to Turkey in the coming weeks to defend against potential threats from Syria, defense officials said Friday.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta signed the order en route to Turkey, where he is visiting Incirlik Air Base, Pentagon spokesman George Little told reporters.

And your view of Christian safety in Syria must also turn very dim.

Absolutely. The reason the Christians survive is because the more tolerant Alawites run the Government. When the Sunnis take over the Alawites and the Christians will be crushed. The same thing will happen in Egypt and Libya now that the Sunnis have control of those countries; the Christians are fair game, there is no Mubarack or Gaddafy to protect them. - Tom

I’ve seen some others make the same sorts of claims. It is surprising to me that people who hate the west and Israel to the degree they do, actually tolerate Christians, but I realize there’s a grain of truth in it.

People like Gaddafy, Mubarack,Assad, and Saadam Hussein were of a secular bent and would tolerate Infidels.

The fundamental Sunnis, like the Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaeda and Hamas etc. won't tolerate Infidels.
They are in the drivers seat in Egypt and Libya and are expecting to take over in Syria, with Lebanon and Jordan to follow.-Tom

It only takes a week when you don’t offer a ‘tip’ for exceptional service. There are no bribes in Turkey, as their highest court ruled while I was there.

Why would there be threats from the Russians? Patriots have been deployed to Turkey before. They are purely a defensive missile. NATO deployed Patriots in Turkey during 1991 and 2003 for the Iraqi conflicts. Before Patriot the Turks had their own Nike-Hercules and also the US deployed batteries. Nothing new in deploying such defensive batteries.

Well, someone has to entertain lobbyists and keep the D.C. Cocktail party circuit alive.
