Richard Dravis, who gives shooting training at Wooster Mountain rifle range, 15 miles away from the school, said: "We don't train crazy people. I think that if we would address the mental health issue here we could possibly do something in the future. But we can't count the number of rounds in the magazine of a nut head."

I actually think more can be done at the shooting ranges to weed out crazies. This can be a good “conservative” solution.
And of course, this had to come from an overseas source, I mean, an Amerikan media outlet saying THIS, honestly...
Besides telling them they can’t practice, what can you do? It appears Adam Lanza didn’t do anything on the range to warrant getting kicked off of it - let alone committed. The range makes you safer with your weapon, and it also increases your capability with your weapon. I don’t like the idea of arbitrarily restricting it.
This woman says he wasn’t on FB so maybe this is a recent account.
It further states there was a young man who stayed with him while the mother was out so it’s apparent the mental problems were significant. It sounds like this was around the parents’ divorce. Another friend said yesterday the mother had retired (from what?) to stay home with Adam. She was getting a substantial amount from the father to live comfortably. Is this money for her or for Adam? There was some amount in yesterday’s news on child support and that it was supposed to be raised in a few years so that shows Adam was never going to be able to function out on his own. Were the parents in denial of his mental problems and he should have been place in a facility years ago? Was he getting therapy and were meds involved?
Lanza had gone to a Dick’s Sporting Goods recently to purchase a rifle, and he declined to make the purchase when told that he would have to undergo a background check. That’s a point where I would be willing to say that someone should be reported to law enforcement for further investigation. I’d rather have someone attempt to make the purchase and fail the check than decline to purchase because of the requirement for a check.
It’s like here in Volusia County, Florida, the Sheriff (Vogel) once set up signs on I-95 on the northbound lanes saying “Drug Interdiction Stop Ahead - Be prepared to stop.” Then he parked deputies on the other side of the highway and stopped people who turned around in the median. They caught lots of people with drugs that way until some judge ordered that the signs were unconstitutional.
What we don’t know and my never really know is just how badly this guy had turned in recent weeks or months. I would venture a guess that his mother knew that something had changed with him. His brother said that he hadn’t been in contact with Adam since 2010. Why? What happened in 2010 that caused a break in that relationship? Was the mother trying to keep the plates spinning and protect Adam’s reputation and her own rather than working with appropriate mental health counselors to protect everyone else from Adam? If anything like that was true, and she kept guns and ammunition where he could get to them, then she made a major mistake.
I think that happens in the vast majority of cases where there is a severely disturbed individual. Rather than acknowledge it and do something about it, which could be a source of embarrassment for the family, they just ignore it and try to pretend that it will sort itself out.
“Set on the brow of a gently sloping hill, surrounded by two acres of woodland and well-tended lawns, the spacious property looked like any American family’s dream home.”
What a lovely house. They had EVERYTHING...well, not quite.
Maybe the mother didn’t want to have him committed because the the fathers money might have stopped coming to her and gone to where ever he was being treated. She might have wanted to be the one controlling her son and loved him and wanted him to continue to live with her. As a parent you always think that you can do better by your child than strangers that he does not even know.
If they are a Dem more than likely they are certifiable!
The original intent of the background check was to file charges on ineligible people that attempted to purchase a gun. That has never happened.
May be requiring “references” to practice routinely can help? In this case, all his references would have pointed to an aloof sociopath.
You have a loner, who is into Goth which promotes death and torture among other very dark topics, a single parent, and more than likely on psychotropic drugs prescribed by a psychiatrist here in lies your recipe for disaster.
Go back and look at some of the school shooting in the past. The perpetrators were on prescription medicine.
Instead of banning guns we need to ban the over prescribing of drugs to our youth. Also if your going to be a parent accept the job of raising your children properly.
Lanza evidently did his practicing in the woods. The local ranges had no record of him.
In an effort to try to weed out crazies from getting guns, liberals will label Christian Conservatives/right wingers, as crazy.
