A former U.S. Marine is expected to be released from a prison in Matamoros on Friday.
Jon Hammar has been held at CEDES prison since August, when he crossed bridge with a hunting rifle.
He was taken into custody and charged with carrying an illegal weapon.
According to his family, Hammar was told that he could bring the gun into Mexico if it was registered for and a fee was paid.
His defense lawyer said it was determined that there was no intent to commit a crime in this case.
Over the past five months, U.S. Senator Bill Nelson has been working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the State Department and Mexican authorities to get the 27-year-old out of prison.
During his time in prison, Hammar’s family has been faced with death threats from other inmates.
U.S. Consolate officials are standing by to escort the former Marine safely back into the United States once he is released.

That's what the American Border guards just inside the USA told Hammer.
They should have known that Mexico has a zero tolerance for firearms in their country.
Speaking of Zero, Obama and Holder should be in Jail in Mexico for arming drug cartels and criminals in Mexico with the gun walker/fast and furious program.
And prosecuted here in the USA for conspiracy/accomplice to Murder One.
Mexico trial first, do the Mexican jail time, then be sent back here for trial.

The Mom read a letter from the State Dept. on F&F and it clearly stated that “can’t do nuthin cause it’s goin through the Mehico court system”. Disgusting. That was just a few days ago. YES Team FOX got this guy some action. The Mom DID say that several Florida congresscritters were trying to do their best to get him relealsed.
Back in the 70s I knew numerous people who would go hunting in Mexico and they took their guns......evidently times have changed!!!

And where is the story about the Mexican beauty queen used as a human sheild in a catfight between two cartels and she’s dead now from use of a gun bought in Arizona and transported over to Mexico? WHERE is that story? Gun running.
Betcha the farm that is what was going on in Libya - running guns through Turkey / TO Turkey and/or to Syria.

Only criminals can have weapons in Mexico, and Holder and Obama know as that is who they sent them to.

The funny thing is that O’Reilly is dying to take credit for this man’s release, but he already went on vacation. I suspect he’ll come back just to brag.
I can vouch for this. My stepdad & grandad (who lived in Harlingen)- would go to Mexico to hunt White Wings.
to ozzymandus, He is welcome to it, if he is indeed entitled, imho. It’s a disgrace & outrageous that 0bama did nothing (obviously, our “relationship” with Mexico is a one way street).
The one point the media or anyone else I’ve heard speak on this matter is missing is...a gun cannot be taken into Mexico until ALL paperwork is in order. Especially the required permits on the Mexico side. I’ve hunted in Mexico and taken my gun across. (and I’m from Harlingen)
