A federal appeals court on Friday put the brakes on a first-of-its-kind California law that bans therapy aimed at turning gay minors straight.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an emergency order putting the law on hold until the court can hear full arguments on the measure’s constitutionality. The law was set to take effect Jan. 1.

Licensed counselors who practice so-called “reparative therapy” and two families who say their teenage sons have benefited from it sought the injunction after a lower court judge refused the request.

The law, which was passed by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Jerry Brown this fall, states that therapists and counselors who use “sexual orientation change efforts” on clients under 18 would be engaging in unprofessional conduct and subject to discipline by state licensing boards. …

That is so wrong. If a person wants help/therapy, it should be offered. Liberals are for controlling all of those that they can. They pretend to care about individuals like they pretend children come first but do not think of their rights in some of these bizarre cases we read about in the news.

Politicizing medicine - good, bad, quackery or otherwise - is a mistake, because medicine becomes a polticial and legal football. This is the entire point of Obamacare. We already see the political class holding people’s treatment hostage every time there is a Parliamentary debate.

It is revealing that therapy billed as curing gays was so vehemently opposed and received such quick action by CA. Contrast this with their inaction on their looming bankruptcy.

No no... therapy is only OK when it is used to coddle perversion. Gender reassignment therapy? Check! Gender normalization? How dare you, you bigot!

Being 'gay' is sexual sharia for liberals; once you go gay, you can't back away.

Homosexual activists are also known as feminists. They are aggressive and dictatorial over both sexes and the extra ones they invent and impose upon the public.

They are trying to re-educate adults via authoritative control as they do to children within the public schools and universities. They are dark, hard and gross wannabe rulers of the heart and mind. They are mean and vindictive to those who do not do as ordered and so many weak souls surrender to their insanity and hate.

Judges in a quandry....their homosexual marraige rulings kinda conflict with any ruling against this law stopping heterosexual counseling. They would be explicitly condoning the HomoFascist agenda by ruling in favor of this law

Yet it’s ok to pimp homosexuality in elementary schools.
They also consider homophobia as a true mental disorder and
homosexuality as normal sexual behavior. Something is
defiantly wrong with the water in Lonnyfornia. And to think,
all those loony Calis are moving to Texas.

How can trying to help people who want to change be a bad thing?

Does the law also state that those treating patients under 18 who are trying to change their gender subject to these restrictions? If not, then it is a bigoted, OBVIOUSLY one-sided law specifically trying to restrict those who wish from leaving the gay mafia’s control!

They pretend to care about individuals like they pretend children come first but do not think of their rights...

I notice that the whole "right to privacy" that was the basis for the Roe v Wade ruling seems to apply only to abortion and not to other medical procedures.

I’m not 100% certain due to the language, and the slow working of my brain.

But I *think* this is a good result, at least not a bad one.

Anyone else? This seems at least to keep the option open.

That is saying, the option to treat people (at the family’s choice), for homosexual behavior drummed into them in schools.

Until our schools are more representative of our society, we at least keep open the option for “parents” to stay involved.

A more permanent solution would be to increase parents’ control over the entire education system, which is a runaway mess right now.
