Ad guru reveals why he sold Hamptons estate: I’m paying unfair price for working hard
NY Post ^ | December 23, 2012 | JERRY DELLA FEMINA

I’m happy to pay my fair share — which is whatever the tax is right now.

The thing about capital gains is, I made the investment. I put in the original money. The house cost $3 million and then I put in an additional $6 million because the house was in terrible shape. We added rooms, sections, areas, and basically it was my investment.

When I bought that house I think Obama was in high school, and I certainly have paid taxes ever since.

-snip

Now I’m being told the right thing is to do more. And because I can afford it, I have to pay more.

At this stage of my life, I want to have money to leave to my five kids and seven grandkids. Why would I want to give that additional 8 percent from capital gains to Obama instead?

God knows how that money would be spent.

I made the investment while Obama might have been in high school or smoking dope in college or whatever he was doing. He didn’t make the investment; I did. He didn’t take the risk; I did. He didn’t improve the house; I did. And then in the end, he’s saying I must pay him more.

I always was happy to pay my fair share of taxes. I’m careful to pay every single penny on my taxes. I don’t have any money offshore. But the fact is that at this stage the general feeling in the country is, “You have it, give it to us.”

Republicans have allowed the ENTIRE DEBATE to surround raising taxes instead of FOCUSING ON SOLVING OUR DEBT AND SPENDING PROBLEM!!! THERE is ONLY ONE WAY TO FIX the problem and that is to CUT FEDERAL PROGRAMS ACROSS THE BOArd! IN some programs, they need to simply shut the entire program DOWN!~

If it's his money, then for you to be consistent you must believe he should pay no taxes and keep it all.

That's pretty much what I believe. I'll agree to fund the military and the highways, but that's it. The rest would be done through charities. The charities would help those in NEED and help those in WANT to find their own jobs (and be close enough to home to know the difference between the two).

Should he leave the money HE EARNED to the government instead so they can piss it away?

If the government lowers taxes on the middle class and makes up the shortfall by taxing the super rich more, then the government can pee it away all it wants.

I’ve seen a bunch of nice barns remodeled into homes. We have a 100 year old barn that I’m thinking about re-working into a world class man cave.

BUMP

One of the best places... I can believe that one!

The barn I saw had a huge overhang you could park a big rig or RV under. You could probably turn the place into apartments. lol. Maybe a small exaggeration.

Yes, but darn near *everything* was a tax deduction. 3-martini lunches, you name it. Given the lock down on business deductions that got started in the 80s and continued in the 90s, comparing tax rates between the times is apples vs oranges.

You sound like someone without children or friends. It is a natural human right to be able to give what you have earned to anyone you like whether family or friends or charity. I’m surprised that a troll like you are on Free Republic.

From that French actor to this guy and plenty more each day, more and more hard-working, succesful people are beginning to shrug. The African communist scumbag Ubama is intent on destroying what's left of America.

Selfish and jealous, aren’t you?
Why in heck should his after tax money be left to the government? He already was taxed on his earnings? Not enough for jealous folks like you though.
BTW, you certainly have no ability to reason.

“Yup. I actually witnessed some scumbag buy an 18 pack of beer with an EBT. Hope he drowns in it.”

I see that all the time. They are using the welfare version of the card rather that the food stamp card. What really burned me up though, was a young white deadbeat telling a couple of Amish bruthas how to transfer their food stamp cash to a bank account and spend it on whatever they chose. There is no stigma to being a BUM anymore

If the government lowers taxes on the middle class and makes up the shortfall by taxing the super rich more, then the government can pee it away all it wants.

How do you define super rich? Let's suppose that, like your socialist brethren, you define them as the top 1%. In order to remain revenue neutral, for every 1% you lower the taxes on the other 99% you need to raise the top 1%'s taxes 5%. And that's assuming they maintain the same level of economic activity, which they won't.

So given that, how much should we raise taxes on the "super rich"? 5% so you can pay 1% less? 10% so you can pay 2% less? How much?

What you said. But exactly.

When they’re in D.C. or Chicago, when they’re in California or New York, when they’re in the long line for Obamadollars—that’s one thing.

When they crawl up stinking and sniveling in our midst they should be stomped back into the mud.

The government is not making him sell. He could continue owning in the Hamptons without penalty. It sounds like he was going to sell anyway and did proper tax planning. He is no different than you or I, we ALL in the same boat.

I don’t feel the same for a muti-millionaire with property in the Hamptons crying about selling as I feel for the family having to sell the farm to pay estate taxes.
