There's no such thing as a contradiction. If you come across one, check your premises. You will find that one that is wrong. In this case, the erroneous premise is that Democrats want to grow the economy. They don't. Instead, they want to redistribute the existing wealth as they see fit. And in this case, they have been very smart in that they did not overestimate Republican stupidity.
How many times have we heard the specter of 'restitution for slavery' brought up over the last few years? Well check out what's been happening. Our government is stealing wealth from those who have it by increasing the money supply. And they have not increased it in the normal Keynesian sense, but have done so exclusively for the purpose of funding government. So when you go to the grocery store today, your purchasing power has been reduced by one-third because your money is not worth as much any more. Yet the person standing in line in front of you is getting that one-third and then some through the 'free' food stamps he/she now receives.
Obama and the Democrats have been so effective in their propaganda efforts that they have the Republicans complaining about a 4-point increase in tax rates on people earning over $250K while completely ignorant of the fact that the biggest tax increase since Carter is occurring on a daily basis through the devaluation of the currency. And do you hear one single Republican pointing this out to America? The silence is deafening.
If Boehner had a lick of sense, he would say that there will be no increase in the debt ceiling until the Democrats deliver the $100 billion in cuts they promised 16 months ago. But instead, all we get out of Boehner is complaints of Obama not leading, when he is completely incapable of doing so himself?
Democrats stupid? Hardly. They know EXACTLY what they are doing. Republicans are the stupid ones here.
Hoodat, your post #142 is excellent—right on the quickly devaluing money.
Happy New Year.
Thank you for that concise brief. If the house caves on this they can kiss their sweet ass out of office.
