There is no doubt.
Police Chief = elected office.

Chief Medical Examiner = elected office.

No doubt? Like Hell. I know of cases where MEs have lied in the past, due to political pressure.

Not in Connecticut.The Police Chief is appointed by the Local Mayor and the Chief Medical Examiner is appointed by the Governor of the State Of Connecticut.

They are Not elected officials.

Sure, this varies with jurisdiction - but political appointees are even less accountable than elected officials. And no less likely to bend to political pressure.
