Over 40 percent of children born in America are born out of wedlock. How can a country survive if children are being raised in homes where it's so much harder to succeed economically? It's five times the rate of poverty in single-parent households than it is in two-parent homes. We can have limited government, lower tax — we hear this all the time, cut spending, limit the government, everything will be fine. No, everything's not going to be fine.

When your party is more interested in taking away what little benefits these single-parent families receive in order to preserve the wealth of the top 1% then of course you are going to lose the votes of those people . . . and there's a lot more of them then the 1%.

See my tag line. It’s been there since I joined, shortly after the 2008 election. I knew this would be a long, hard fight. Defeatism is never welcome, but an honest assessment of how to improve our game is a good thing. Many here on FR have contended that the dichotomy between social and fiscal issues is a false dichotomy, that culture and moral/spiritual principles are inseparable from fiscal issues, and that both of those domains are critical to freedom. This is a comprehensive war that is being waged against us, and we must respond in kind. To the extent the author is saying this, it is a correct and helpful assessment of battle conditions.

However, the temptation is to be overwhelmed, to look on the giants of Jericho and just give up. But their strength is finite, and the real universe as God created it and manages it will not support their delusions of grandeur. They will fail. It is only a matter of time, and of staying in the fight long enough to see it happen. To that end, we also agree with Churchill, that we will embrace no peace other than the peace that follows the victory of right and good over wrong and evil. No peace till victory.

The culture war is over, and conservatives lost

Not when viewed in county-by-county maps of 2012 electoral results.

People that flippantly say that we’ve lost the culture war are the ones who have contempt for it. They are the fake “conservatives.”

The bottom line is we have a problem in this country, and the family is fracturing.

The goal of libtards is to destroy the institutions of marriage and family. Libtards desire equality of results and if they can't get that then they will settle for equality of opportunity. Equality of opportunity involves equality of both nature and nurture. One way to achieve equality of nurture is to destroy the family and marriage enough so that the government can take over and raise children equally. Libtards are behaviorists who are constantly and continuously trying to build the society they want by controlling the environment.

The culture war is over? Dream on. We ain't seen nothing yet. America is still swirling the bowl when it comes to depravity. "Conservatives lost"? Yeah. we're down - but not out.

"Today, conservatives have made a shocking discovery: They are the ones in danger of appearing out of touch with middle America." -- Paul Weyrich, 1999. True then. Truer now.

To be sure, his idea wasn't entirely original. Years earlier, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan observed, "The central conservative truth is that it is culture, not politics, that determines the success of a society."

So true it's worth repeating in bold font:

"The central conservative truth is that it is culture, not politics, that determines the success of a society."

For example, over at Red State, conservative commentator and blogger Erick Erickson argues, "Republicans should turn their attention toward — family." Erickson quotes Rick Santorum, who, during a 2012 Republican primary debate said:

The bottom line is we have a problem in this country, and the family is fracturing.

EGGS-ZACTLY. As opposed to liberals like Glenn Beck and Newt Gingrich who argue that Republicans need to "get with it" and allow same-sex marriages.

Conservatives have largely lost the culture, and it can't be won back by passing some landmark piece of legislation. Instead, it's going to be a long, hard slog. The good news is that, though conservatives typically hate the term "reactionary," most conservative victory is first predicated on liberal overreach.

It may be that if things get bad enough, America will finally start looking inward.

Correct again. America is like a junkie. Only when (not if but when) liberalism drops America into the gutter fiscally, culturally, socially, and literally, will conservatism bring America back to it senses.

Wait until the Liberals’ actions hit Americans in the wallet...then we’ll see that this battle isn’t over.

Maybe Commentary magazine's symposium, "What Is the Future of Conservatism in the Wake of the 2012 Election?—A Symposium," has some answers.

“And I argued that voters do want to be given something by Republican politicians: Hope, optimism, and vision.”

Reminds me of the ambitious little commissar in `Enemies At The Gate’ telling Kruschev, “Give them hope!” Or Obama.

I’ll remain the sole member of the Can’t party: The federal government can’t keep spending more money than it takes in. It can’t threaten free men with tyranny. It can’t keep murdering 1,500 babies every day. It can’t keep encouraging an ongoing invasion of our country.
It can’t ... or not for much longer.

Abortion and homosexual sex are only successful cultural initiatives when promoted and subsidized by government.

The culture did not change -it was changed and the change is temporary -the culture is being held hostage by a tyrannical leftist government.

Take away the government promotion and subsidy and the self destructive culture of perversion and death will collapse just as surely as the Berlin wall did.

That is why the fiscal cliff worries the perverts more than anyone else!!!!

Bring it on leftists -either we win and send you back to the cesspool or you win and go bankrupt funding failure -either way, WE WIN THE CULTURE WAR!!!!!!

Survival of the fittest!!!!

After more than 100 years, the direction of the "left" is coming to fruition. We have reaped what we have sown.

Sad but true.

Finally! Where have you guys been? It has been really strange to read the posts of FR and see only cast down eyes, heads, and folded hands.

Glad to see you, folks. We fight on.

Years ago I studied societal collapse under a famous anthropologist. His field work was in Africa. As a young American, I had the attitude that it was something that happened to other people. Now years later, the country I love has become a demonstration of what I learned so long ago.

Bottom line is that women pass culture to children. Strong cultures have mothers in the home doing exactly that while fathers by provisioning the mothers and children and leading the family made it possible.

Conservatives have bought the lie of needing two incomes. They bought the lie of “quality time” in raising children. Once that happened it was over. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. The hand that America turned over it's destiny to was the schools, Hollywood and minimum wage “caregivers”.

This article is nonsensical and cowardly. The GOP made a conscious decision to embrace big government - not because of Snoop Dog videos or Honey Boo Boo. Proof below:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/975049/posts

“Over the course of an hour-long meeting with Ed Gillespie, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, we took great care to give him every opportunity to explain himself fully so that nothing could be misunderstood. The result was a surprisingly frank admission that the Republican Party defines “fiscal responsibility” as increasing the federal budget at “a slower rate of growth” than the Democrats (his words).

We asked him three times to explain why President Bush and the Republican Congress have increased discretionary non-defense spending at such an alarming rate, and why the party has embraced the expansion of the federal government’s roles in education, agriculture and Great Society-era entitlement programs.

“Those questions have been decided,” was his response. The public wants an expanded federal role in those areas, and the Republican Party at the highest levels has decided to give the public what it wants.”

Don’t ever give up. Conservatives still outnumber liberals. If the GOP hadn’t betrayed us, the country wouldn’t be like this. Take the party back, then the country.

“...It may be that if things get bad enough, America will finally start looking inward.”

I think this is key. The Left has that tendency to overeach. They’re a zealous lot, and quite prone to mistakes, usually of the commonsensical sort that tend to pee off the constituency to the point they finally get off their tail bones, and react.

I believe in the Constitution, but I also believe efforts to fortify our Constitution against the ravages of anti constitutionalists should be made to ensure longevity of the freedoms that constitution allows.

BLOAT FOR AMERICA.

The essay is rolling around in my head......Reformation, Restoration, Repudiation.

Judaism was reformed by Christianity. Catholicism was reformed by the Protestant movement. All are being successfully repudiated.

Meanwhile in much of the rest of the world, there is an attempt to restore Islam.

There is a battle between the Repudiators and the Restorers over ideology transcending that of religion.
