Was his name and address on the Journal-News map?
Was he a policeman?
I have no doubt whatsoever that this was a set up. They let this guy just walk away and no cops got him?
I bet that newspaper is behind this.
According to NBC’s Channel 4 New York:
“Schools in Mamaroneck, N.Y. are locked down after a man with a gun showed up at a middle school and tried to get in, officials said.
The man left without incident, officials said.
He tried to access Hommocks Middle School through a side entrance that was locked, and then went to the main entrance, where he was stopped.
A campus worker asked him why he was there and noticed he had a gun, according to an email sent to parents. The man said he had the gun because he works as a security guard.
He said he wanted to retrieve an item of clothing he left in the pool area over the weekend, according to Mamaroneck Police.
Lt. Robert Koziak said the man was described as “pleasant.”
He was not allowed in, and left.
Parents were notified that schools were secured, and that afternoon and evening activities had been canceled.”
Would you really be surprised if you found out later that's what happened?
Test run?
Surely he must have broken a “gun-free zone” law, and they let him walk away? Hmmm.
You and I try this and we’re in BIG doo doo.
That “Weapons Prohibited” sticker sure slowed him down. /sarc
If he was a private police officer, and he was pleasant and had his gun holstered and visible, what the heck is the problem?
I was rather surprised to learn that some schools, especially high schools, in poorer neighborhoods, frequently have a problem with adults coming on to school grounds for all sorts of bad reasons.
In one such school, they had to post an armed security guard in the gym, because adults would show up, take the basketball away from the kids, and start playing basketball.
The security guard was initially surprised because their attitude was, “Should I have not done that?”, not grasping the difference between a school and a public park with a basketball court. But he soon soured of the stupidity, and was clear that if they didn’t leave, right now, he was half inclined to shoot them.
Even then, much of the time, the jerks would try to take the school’s basketball with them, claiming it was their own, despite the large print on it identifying it as the property of the school. When they surrendered the ball, it would be with a string of curses.
His team of armed guards at the school were busy all day, only a fraction of the time with students.

The school complex has a pool and a skating rink that is shared with the community and surrounding areas. Admission to rink is discounted to Town residents, and is used by many from surrounding areas. Very nice friendly community center feel to it. I have also seen this type of arrangement in towns in other states, Massachusetts, Illinois, and California.
