A strong report on private-sector hiring in December overshadowed rising jobless claims last week, lifting some economists' expectations for the federal employment snapshot due out Friday.

Private-sector jobs in the U.S. increased by 215,000 last month, according to a report Thursday by payroll processor Automatic Data Processing Inc. ADP +0.39% and forecasting firm Moody's Analytics.

ADP is usually 25 to 30% higher than NFP then they end up adjusting downward.

Funny thing .... I know a bunch of folks that got ‘laid off’ permanently yesterday and a relative of mine who owns a small business is downsizing yet again this week (now under 20 from 85 ... no work). Nobody ‘on the ground’ believes things are looking up ... unless they’re on the ground wallowing in unicorn road apples.

"200,000 of them were temp/seasonal jobs!"

Exactly! This is why I loathe the MSM so much.

Next month they report how jobs "unexpectedly" decreased again for about 47 out of 48 months of Obama in office.

Oh and pay no attention to jobless claims continuously increasing ad infinitium.

Imagine if there was a republican in the WH.

No more Holiday sales or travel. Those people won't be back till next year - if we have a next year. The way we're going on the welfare train, we'll be lucky if people have basic food items.

If a republican was in office we’d never ever hear the end of it and we’d be bombarded with video of people at the unemployment offices along with the standard video of people at gas stations complaining about gas prices.

“Nobody ‘on the ground’ believes things are looking up ...”

That is why these last election results are so puzzling to me; did that many people think things had improved over the past four years? I think it is more likely that they realized their only hope was to become a ward of the nanny-state, and vote for the parasite POS that would give them the most freebies.

Obama’s re-election was indeed cause for despair.

The price of food has been going up steadily over the last couple of years, more than a couple of years actually. I have been stock piling canned goods and other items like ketchup, mustard, etc. for a couple of years, I rotate them to keep them current. I've also been stocking up on toilet paper, light bulbs, bottled water, and I have a couple of manual can openers!

Before long they will see the economy crash upon their heads.

That’s what some are hoping. Problem is, no one knows when. And we wait just for the opportunity to say, “we told you so?” Not much of a plan, sorry.

I wasn’t trying to convince you of anything. Pain is coming... times harder than the Great Depression... and I see no will in DC to do anything to stop it. We fight because with GOD... all things are possible. Lying down... bunkering in and waiting for the end is no plan either. We can always start over... we fight until then... what else can we do?

“Hate to tell ya’, but the majority of voters in this country think that things are looking up.”

You know, I thought maybe I was just seeing too small a slice of the country to grasp the full extent of the “recovery”, but if (real) unemployment is as high as it is, and food stamp dependence is at record levels, and we’ve just come through a dismal holiday shopping cycle, then I believe everybody else is seeing this too. The difference is that they are voting Dem BECAUSE things are so bad (rather than holding them accountable for it).

Things are only “looking up” in this country if you are a government worker (especially teachers & cops) who has survived the waves of layoffs (they make a ton of money).
