“I’m pretty sure the Miami media hates Nick Saban because he coach rather poorly, seemingly incapable of recognizing anybody outside the SEC was even available to be drafted. After dismantling and abusing a relatively solid team and limping to a 15-17 record, the team that Saban helped put together wound up 7-25 after two years.

He’s a great recruiter and does a wonderful job running a professional team masquerading as an NCAA football team, but he couldn’t hack it in the pros.”

Absolutely right! He was a complete washout in the pros and a lying ahole to boot. Congrats to him on another college win, but it does not change the fact that he was a big time loser at the pro level.

I’m sure he’s over that by now...

Former Irish fan, when it used to be a Catholic university. They simply got thrashed by a better and more experienced team. You could tell that ND’s young quarterback was shell-shocked and caved under the pressure. Surprisingly, the ND coaches did nothing to adjust for the size of the Alabama offensive line. They seemed to think that the defence that played well against lesser opponents could do the same thing against an offensive line where all 5 starters could play right now in the NFL. This year was definitely a positive for the Irish, but they have a long way to go before they can compete with the SEC - as do all those other midwest teams in the Big Ten.

Lots of big-time college coaches wash out in the NFL. Saban, Steve Spurrier, and Lou Holtz being notable examples. I think it has to do with that in college, these guys are dictators over their players and really don't have to worry about massaging egos to get the most out of their players. Whereas in the pros, the coach can be at the mercy of his stars. Other than Jimmy Johnson who has made the leap and won a championship? NOTE: Barry Switazer doesn't count; I could have coached that Cowboy team to a championship.
