About That Overpopulation Problem
Slate ^ | Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 | Jeff Wise

The world’s seemingly relentless march toward overpopulation achieved a notable milestone in 2012: Somewhere on the planet, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the 7 billionth living person came into existence.

Lucky No. 7,000,000,000 probably celebrated his or her birthday sometime in March and added to a population that’s already stressing the planet’s limited supplies of food, energy, and clean water. Should this trend continue, as the Los Angeles Times noted in a five-part series marking the occasion, by midcentury, “living conditions are likely to be bleak for much of humanity.”

A somewhat more arcane milestone, meanwhile, generated no media coverage at all: It took humankind 13 years to add its 7 billionth. That’s longer than the 12 years it took to add the 6 billionth—the first time in human history that interval had grown. (The 2 billionth, 3 billionth, 4 billionth, and 5 billionth took 123, 33, 14, and 13 years, respectively.) In other words, the rate of global population growth has slowed. And it’s expected to keep slowing. Indeed, according to experts’ best estimates, the total population of Earth will stop growing within the lifespan of people alive today.

And then it will fall.

I suggest an international fart day ... or Day of the Fart.

Everyone drinks beer and eats pizza a couple of hours before a designated time and when zero lights another cigarette, the entire planet blows up.

LOL. Slate just discovered this. That’s what happens when you are part of a ruling class that is so invested in using fear of overpopulation and sustainability to enhance your power that you don’t notice when the big problem is demographic crash.

Of course, they will develop a socialist solution for demographic crash and spend years trying to force it down our throats.

And then it will fall.

Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible.

In the year 2000, we'll all have flying cars. People will go on vacations in orbital space hotels. Computers will be so affordable that lots of people will be able to have one. They will fill a room, but the Fortran language will make them easy to program.

On the other hand, there is only a world market for about five computers.

We will bury you.

This over population hysteria has been going on since the hippie generation. The world is nowhere near stressing on food supplies. Any problem with food supply today is political. It’s not about supply. IT’s about inflation. Gasohol has raised the price of food. Printing too much money has inflated the value of what the poor in Arab countries could make. The Arab spring wasn’t about politics; it was about the sudden 15% increase in food prices. Probably every starvation in modern times was more do to economic collapse, politics or war than weather or crop failure.

100% correct!!!!

Just as the liberals switched from Global Cooling to Global Warming to Climate Change.....this is all just an effort to make their socialist poliies keep pace with their failed predictions.

I agree about the gasahol issue, but paying farmers to not plant and harvest crops is stupid too. Farmers know best when to plant and what to plant. Let them do it.

Another “journalist” apparently oblivious to the statistical data that there are actually more human beings on the planet pulling themselves OUT of poverty than at any other time in history.
