Our director was Eldon Janzen. He was from north of Dallas. I bet he knew your director.

And what happens when the parents get cancer!

Did you read my posts! We’ve had a child with a brain injury who as of this weekend is back on anti seizure medication, another daughter diagnosed last year with a movement disorder called dystonia, and my husband was diagnosed with cancer in addition to losing his job!

Sometimes people need help!!!

I fdidn’t add that while all of this was going on I have been suffering from hip bursitis from a fall. I had to put off surgery for a year because of my husbands cancer, but I just had hip surgery.

By the way, I was a member of the award winning Lake Highlands Band in Dallas. We had oboe players that faked playing clarinets. Most of the flute section did not play. Since most award winning marching bands in Texas based on the Lake Highlands model, I’m sure there are others that fake play.

Read up on Eddie Green and Malcolm Helm. They are famous in Texas bands. They were my band directors.

Well I think I am safe in saying, my marching band was better than yours. No faking.

It is called being honest and being the best you can be. Again, I will not ever say it is good or right for your daughter or anyone for that matter to fake play in a band. I don’t care how many times you tell me about it. It is dishonest and an affront to the band members who practice and play their hearts out.

Now, on to the other topic you keep harping on.

I have tried to be somewhat nice, but it just makes you angry. So here is my opinion:

I am sorry for your troubles.

But giving out your laundry list sob story isn’t changing my mind.
Since you are not someone I know and love, I will not EVER be ok with the government forcibly taking my money to give to you to alleviate your problems.
I will not EVER be ok with the government giving you tax breaks that are not given to every other American.

I have problems. You have yours. Everyone has them. You are a thinking human who was granted life today. Work hard to make yourself happy. Whatever happy means to you. Stop looking to others (strangers) for help.

I agree. It is sad when people here on FR not only condone mediocrity, but argue the virtues of it.

I just want the government to stop taking my money!

I don’t want help. I don’t think it’s right for the government to say we are high income when my husband made over $250,000 one year and we had to pay over 50% in taxes and then the following year be eligible for unemployment beneftits which my husband refused to get and got a low paying job instead.

How about averaging out the income over several years?

How about letting someone with major medical problems actually deduct that off their taxes?

I also think that it’s nice to help disabled kids! They need help. When I was a kid we included a blind girl with lots of other problems in our Girl Scout troop. She became one of my dearest friends. I’m glad we made accomodations for her. She helped me be able to deal with my own disabled kids.

I have never asked for help from the government.
