Welfare benefits will be slashed by ¥74 billion over a three-year period starting from fiscal 2013, after a government panel found that some people are making more on the dole ...

What a novel idea. I don’t think the government should do the welfare thing in the first place but they do. That said, welfare should not provide a nice lifestyle. It should be a safety net that provides a safe and healthy but spartan lifestyle that people want to get off of ASAP.

Danny's father, 46, even offered him a job with his bowling alley servicing company - but could not pay him enough.
IIRC, if you turn down a job in the US, your benefits are terminated.

Sounds like a damn fine idea. Needs to happen faster than 3 years though and needs to happen here. Average well fare per household amounts to about $32/hr TAX FREE compared to median household income of about $25/hr TAXED.

Would you be motivated to find a job? Do the math.

At least the Japanese see it. Earn more than 65k a year? That blows me away, although it shouldn’t. Even my kids complain about the “bling” the free school lunchers have. (Remember, this doesn’t count any illegally earned or not reported income to the household. Disgusting.)

Captain John Smith had an even easier solution when Jamestown was founded: No work, no food.

I like the idea and it should be a start. But it should go further to where welfare should be abolished and allow private organizations to take care of those truly in need. And those organizations can better decide who gets help and who are S.O.L. Women who spread their legs and then pop babies out should be cut off and these private organizations would enforce that.

That actually make sense, people who work in the private sector should be paid more then people who live off the dole.Japan is one of those nations I actually worry about, they have got a nice and reverent culture but their finances are shot to hell.

Figures though if they keep it together and they keep their national spirit going and their culture strong, they might well survive.
