In the 1990s, some conservatives were urging that states vote for a new constitutional convention, and I believe that some did so. If that were to happen, this is the kind of crap we’d get.
Is Barry Soetoro going to try and stack the US Supreme Court as well?
The Constitution is a document that restricts government. The Bill of Rights was the original statement of “NO”.
Bastardizing it into a set of inflexible, virtually unchangeable “policy goals” is a disaster.
We can already see Cass Sunstein’s work in action as Obama rides roughshod over the current Bill of Rights.
NY has been opting for a new state convention...mostly about casinos...but I’d say they’re going to really stick it to us on every fag, female and financial issue.
You are absolutely right on that one. A ConCon would be a total crapshoot in terms of the outcome. With a large and growing taker class, something that looks like this would no doubt emerge.
There is some debate that a call to a Convention has to be for a specific resolution and that SOLELY that resolution can be discussed and/or ratified.
IF that is the case then I’m ok with it. Otherwise, you speak truth.
And I worry about how much support such a movement would receive. Personally, I know a Gen-X couple who consider themselves Republicans who think this 2nd Bill of Rights is just dandy.
