Smear-merchant Sen. Dick Durbin smeared the membership base of the NRA, including Wayne LaPierre who was present, in today’s gun violence hearing. After an unfair tussle over background checks with LaPierre, Durbin then asked LaPierre if he agreed to the sentiment of other NRA members that they needed ‘assault weapons’ to protect themselves from the government and the police. LaPierre responded that indeed the 2nd amendment was added to the Constitution by men who had lived under the tyrannical rule of King George and wanted to ensure that free people never lived under tyranny again.
Durbin then looked directly at the very liberal Baltimore County Police Chief and said:
“Well Chief Johnson, you’ve heard it. The belief of the NRA is the 2nd amendment has to American citizens the fire power to fight back against you…”
OUTRAGEOUS. That’s not at all what the NRA believes, nor did LaPierre ever insinuate that. It’s about fighting tyranny, a tyrannical government. And of course the liberal police chief played along and responded with disdain at the idea. Total smear by Durbin.
Shortly after that Durbin began to question another panelist about 100-round magazines. The panelist clearly pointed out that those are novelty items, not something used by the American public at large or even law enforcement. The panelist wanted to focus on the Heller Case from the DC gun ban and defend only the normal capacity magazines that police officers use, but Durbin insisted on twisting his words, accusing him of advocating for 100-round magazines, simply so he could demagogue the issue.

I have one question for Dick.
Do you support and defend The Constitution of the United States of America?
Most people feel the urgent need to bathe after being in the same room with Dick Durbin.
All that need be said of Durbin is that the taken name of “Dick” rightly describes him.

I wish LaPierre had simply said the following:
Senator, I share the view of one of the most esteemed late members of this august body, and your party, Senator Hubert Humphrey, who wrote the following:
“Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used, and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible”

LaPierre should have jumped on it and told him that is exactly what the 2nd Amendment implies - if a government and its arms decide to subjugate the People, the People need to be able to prevent it and having suitable weaponry is critical to that end. If the government is becoming afraid of the People, it's because the government has intentions contrary to the well-being and Freedom of the People. If the government has no ill intentions, then it has nothing to worry about.
Durbin basically called the police chief a tyrant.
Please all of you refer to him by his proper title; Little Dick.

Durbin nailed it exactly. The 2nd Amendment means that if Chief Johnson showed up at my door to violate my rights that I’d have the ability to fight back and assert my rights.
It’s funny when a liberal is accidentally right.
I would pose the following to Senator Durbin:
Sir, do you remember your oath when you were sworn into the US Senate? I’ll review it with you:
“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
Remember these words, or did you just mouth them and dismiss their importance? Do you need a dictionary of the English language? Your actions and words during your political tenure indicate you do not take them without mental reservation or purpose of evasion.
The US Constitution contains the Bill of Rights, specifically the 2nd Amendment, which you deem not worthy to uphold. It is Number 2, which comes after Number 1, Freedom of Speech. The Founders of this country placed a high importance on these amendments. You should know this, but obviously your knowledge of US History is selective, skewed, flawed, or ignored. It is your sworn duty to uphold these rights, my rights as a US Citizen, whether you like it or not. Either uphold the US Constitution, or get out of the office.
