Ex-cop manhunt: Fresh tracks found in Big Bear snow
LAT ^ | February 7, 2013 | 3:27pm

Authorities in Big Bear have spotted fresh tracks believed to be those of a fugitive ex-Los Angeles police officer wanted in connection with a series of shootings and are combing the area for him, a Fire Department official told The Times.

Big Bear Lake Fire Department Asst. Chief Mark Mills also said the burning pickup discovered on a forest road has been linked to Christopher Jordan Dorner, 33, sought in connection with a series of shootings that have left three people dead and two wounded.

TV helicopters showed the pickup being readied to be towed from the scene.

The truck was discovered hours into an intensive manhunt for Dorner that spanned Southern California. Although sources said there had been multiple reported sightings of Dorner's truck in the Big Bear area on Thursday, the burnt truck was too badly charred to immediately confirm it was his.

Meanwhile, the mountain community locked down schools and closed the nearby Bear Mountain Resort as a fatigue-clad SWAT team walked through the woods, rifles drawn.

Sean Jacques, director of loss prevention for Big Bear Mountain Resorts, said that after the burning truck was discovered on a forest service road, local law enforcement told resort officials to keep an eye out for Dorner and provided a description of the suspect.

Wonder how many booby traps have been set along that trail.

You go find out. I'll get coffee and donuts and meet you back here. ;)

Wow, just imagine if the guy drove a White Ford Bronco instead of a Gray Nissan Titan.

If the don’t kill him, an L.A. Jury would let him go.

Imagine a few thousand bitter clingers who bolted, instead of waiting for the confiscation raids to reach them.

That appeared to be old fashioned scatter gun marks, maybe three or so...I’m just guessing by whats on the ground. I’m not really sure though...

But I do know him shooting innocent people, ought to be enough to make all recoil in disgust.

Hey...even in war, generally ya take prisoners and don’t just outright shoot them.....So...

Find him and kill this SOB....but JMO....

Imagine a few thousand bitter clingers who bolted

Or the bitter clinger that wandered home and looked in on the household from somewhere and realized that something was wrong. And just stayed fielded.

I don't know when I'm going to be home, unless you make an appointment with me. If I don't know what I'm doing, OPFOR darn sure can't.

When you only have 19 years to go to retirement... risks like hiking in the woods, without the gear or skills, in a blizzard to look for the crazy person that already shot a bunch of people....... Yeah...

I expect the fire in the belly has faded, but the fear really hasn't.

Asymetric warfare. It's all about psyops and one-off tricks.

Very possible.

It just reminded me of what the Bonnie and Clyde Car looked like after the Cops got done with it using their Thompsons and BAR’s.

I remember seeing the actual Death Car years ago at a Vegas Casino or some other venue of ill repute..

I guess the CA Cops are trying to keep up with the NYPD.

The NYPD shot at a Perp in NYC and hit NINE People without hitting the guy they were “aiming” at. The Perp wasn’t even returning fire, unreal...

He tried to get a boat in San Diego and failed.

Allegedly.

Wait, is that really the truck the cops shot up because they were confused with his truck? The truck on fire appeared to be a Ford extended cab. This is a Toyota Tacoma. Are they that dumb?

Gray Nissan Titan dualcab

They were confused because 1. LA cops 2. They saw a picture where it looked blue (as did the gray concrete it was standing on)

And yes, they are.

This is what the ruthless drug cartels do....

They attempt or kill your kid, mom, grandma, dog and the family cow...On holiday gatherings yet.

They're pissed and throw terrorist level violent tantrums...Mideastern style.

AP: LAPD seen here late Thursday checking ID on a shopper who happened to look like the suspect.

Dorner had apparently switched plates on the truck, and the plate from the first Riverside shooting came back to an address in Torrance. Two LAPD detectives went to the address at 5:20am, roughly four hours after the Riverside officer was killed. On arrival, they spotted a vehicle driving toward them with lights out, and saw someone throw an object out the window in their direction. So.. middle of the night, at a residence associated in some unknown way with a cop killer, and having no idea by then whether he was still in the truck or some other vehicle he stole.

That’s the actual scenario. You can fault them for failing to realize that the object was a newspaper, but you really can’t fault them for the truck color issue because by that point, the guy could have switched vehicles. That does happen fairly frequently, you know.

Thanks for that actual scenario. Do you have anything more concrete?

BTW, two trucks were shot at a few miles apart, which was the result of misidentifying the suspect vehicle and opening up on innocents.

BTW, this was reportedly one of the targets of the suspect and a protection team was in place when the incident occurred with the females. But who knows.....

As nuts as this guy is - we should be taking notes.

Might come in handy when the DHS comes to take away any guns that have not been registered and/or verify that there was a boating accident.

“Yeah - um, we don’t exactly feel comfortable knocking on gramma’s door.”

The second incident, which was ten minutes after the ATC shooting, involved a pursuit by Torrance PD where shots were fired at the conclusion. There were no injuries in that one. I haven’t been able to determine much of anything about that one.

Info on 2nd shooting:

Prior to this there was radio traffic reporting a sighting of the suspect a few miles away.

“On Thursday, February 07, 2013, at approximately 5:15 a.m., uniformed officers of the Torrance Police Department heard shots fired coming from the area of Sunnyglen Park in the City of Torrance, in proximity to where members of the Los Angeles Police Department was providing protective services related to the regional law enforcement effort to capture murder suspect Christopher Dorner.
As Torrance Police Officers responded to the location, they observed a truck suddenly leaving the area matching a similar description of suspect Christopher Dorner’s vehicle. A Torrance Police patrol unit, occupied by two officers, encountered the black truck, collided with the vehicle, and an officer involved shooting occurred.
Both officers involved in the collision were not injured. The sole occupant and driver of the truck was not hit by gun fire and had no visible injuries at the time of the incident.”
