Why do parents allow public schools to run off with their children to other states?

My daughter went from Indiana to Disney World Orlando on exactly the same kind of trip and had a great time.

That was a safer trip than her drive to school each day in my view. One day she got clobbered by a tri-ax dump truck, thankfully the pickup truck she was driving had a lot of compressable length.

When my daughter was in high school she went to Disney World with the band. They were invited to play there. It was a great experience and she had a great time. And no, taxes didn’t pay for the trip, the kids and the parents (us) did.

How do you think the fact this kid was on a school sponsored trip figures into him getting ill?

Maybe because some of us more responsible parents (two of which was a pharmacist and an EMT) go with them as chaperons. We also had a pharmacist and EMT among the chaperons. We had one student get some sort of rash at Disney so ran him over to the clinic inside the park and called his parents. He got medical attention much quicker than he would have if he’d been at school. He was fine. As nascarnation said, most times they are safer on trips than at school.

People do get sick and die every day no matter where they are. On day one, there was a woman who died outside Spaceship Earth as we were in line. Sad. Not anyone from our group.

Sending kids to another state is nothing compared to foreign exchange students who are sent half way around the world. I’d never let my kids in the program but we had an exchange student one year. In that group that came over, one of them was killed in a car accident. Very scary and beyond tragic.
