Not so fast – looks like the CommiePost has been doing a wee bit too much wishcasting:
Coburn: Senators still not close to deal on background checks http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/284557-coburn-senators-still-not-close-to-deal-on-background-checks#comment-811167327 Coburn warned that any talk of registering gun owners would doom the effort. “There absolutely will not be record-keeping on legitimate, law-abiding gun-owners in this country,” he said. “And if they want to eliminate the benefits of actually trying to prevent the sales to people who are mentally ill and to criminals, all they have to do is create a record-keeping. And that will kill this bill. So if you really want to improve it, you have to eliminate the record-keeping.”
Of course, this doesn’t mean that we’re out of the woods, we all still need to keep up the pressure on those traitorous jackals…. Oh, did I say traitorous jackals?… I really meant that they are back stabbing traitorous jackals… yeah, that’s it.

Yes, let us not throw Senator Coburn under the bus here. The "no record keeping" option will never be accepted by the Obama administration. If there is no record keeping, then the bill simply means an easy to check national database of proscribed purchasers. The left will never allow that, because they will scream that anyone will be able to use it, which would lead to "discrimination" of anybody with a record.

This could actually be useful to us, as Constitutionalists could claim "Why do we need 4473's and bound books, or the FBI instant check system, when anyone can check this database to be sure they are not selling to a prohibited purchaser?

It would also allow anyone to see if they were on the prohibited purchaser list, and would require an easily understandable method to have yourself taken off the list.

I think this is good political judo by Senator Coburn.

No record keeping, no universal background check. Works for me.
