A Texas lawmaker proposed a bill this week to make a tax-free holiday for gun and ammo sales.
State Rep. Jeff Leach introduced House Bill 1533, or The Texas Gun Ownership Reinforcement Act, which if turned into law would make guns, accessories, ammo, archery and hunting equipment tax exempt for all 24 hours of Texas Independence Day (March 2).
Texas must take the lead in the fight against the federal governments attempts to infringe on our Second Amendment Rights, Leach said in a statement. The Texas Gun Ownership Reinforcement Act encourages and incentivizes lawful gun ownership by allowing law abiding citizens, hunters and sportsmen the opportunity to save money on firearm and hunting equipment.
He also said that adding the tax-free holiday would benefit taxpayers and small business owners (because theyre saving money) and spur economic growth (because people will be more inclined to spend money).

The message the bill sends is We are a gun state and aim to stay that way.
So, Texas is finally catching up with South Carolina. Nice.
Has the tax free gun sale been reinstated in SC? I thought it was banned a couple years ago for whatever reasons I don’t know.
That would be OK if there were guns or ammo to buy. Right now there aren’t.

Yeah, some commie judge shot down the law with typical left-wing muddle-think, but the legislature just gave him the finger and started including it in the Appropriations Bills each year.
It is a God given Right enumerated in the Constitution, and like First Amendment rights are not taxed (religious gathering, newspaper purchase), neither should guns be.
I LOVE MY STATE!!! Maybe it’s time for that Mossberg - after all, the Veep recommended it!
Texas is cool...
“You got to love Texas”
Yes, I do and I would never move to another state! :-)
Good. Most legislatures can find ways around the courts if they just apply themselves.
