I too was a “lifer”. These leaders, and their types many years ago when I served for 22 years, were one of the reasons I left the service. Stand up guys only go so far.

Now this makes sense. Political leaders are no more inclined to pick Military officials that might stand up to them to uphold the Constitution than they are inclined to pick Federal Judges.
