Trade group identifies medical device makers passing on federal tax

Some medical device manufacturers are trying to pass on the cost of the new federal tax on medical devices to hospitals, and a trade group on Thursday said it has launched a website to identify those companies publicly.

Congress imposed the 2.3 percent tax on the manufacturers as part of the Affordable Care Act. It is expected to collect more than $30 billion over the next decade to help extend healthcare coverage to millions of Americans who would otherwise be uninsured.

The Healthcare Supply Chain Association, which represents the biggest group purchasing organizations (GPO) used by hospitals, on Thursday said the new site, www.devicetaxwatch.com/ would help raise awareness of efforts by some manufacturers "to shift costs of the tax directly to hospitals, healthcare providers, patients and taxpayers."

Most of the companies on its list of "cost-shifting suppliers" are small and private, but there are some large ones, including Allergan Inc, Cerner Corp, Waters Corp, Alere Inc, Invacare Corp, Integra Lifescience and Staar Surgical Co, Cardica Inc, Iridex Corp and Misonix Inc.

So what if they lose money on each device, let them make it up on volume.

That strategy didn't work well for Hank Rearden after the implementation of Directive 10-289.

We can’t afford any of the socialists involved in the medical racket in any way.

There’s a long list of medical professional organizations lobbying against our Second Amendment, BTW. They’ve already crushed traditional family structure.

Well at least that would be a list worth publishing.

Rush Limbaugh just had a caller who stated that under obamacare (actually since the early ‘90’s) anyone under medicaid would have to have their home attached for the cost of coverage & benefits.

TRUE! I was very ill in the 90’s, could not work and checked into medicaid..YES, they can LIEN your home for the cost of coverage...that was Oregon. I refused to apply with this rule and sold my home to get medical care. I also checked out California...same thing.

The difference now, is that the IRS will be charged with compliance and YOU WILL lose the equity in your home if you get ‘government healthcare!’

BELIEVE IT!

Hospital management groups should orient toward self-supply through backward integration and set a fine example by fully absorbing these mandated Obamacare taxes resulting in additional supply costs. Problem solved.

EVERY cost is passed on down the line no matter what it is. Fees, taxes, transportation costs, everything. Anyone who thinks differently should try running a business someday.

By the way these costs keep trickling down until they get to the bottom where they finally end up being paid for by the consumer.
