Has there even been a published report of how many such incidents are actually “boy cries wolf” (whether it is a sexist, homo’phobic’, or racist incident)?

Quite a few of the high profile cases were outright frauds, often committed by the alleged victim him/herself.

Peel this onion and you'll find a progressive liberal with markers, KKK hoodie, and spraypaint.

The problem with some causes is just that nobody really has a contrarian view if it's a stupid cause. You've gotta make your own controversy.

According to their website-tuition, room and board amounts to $57,000+/year. I would be very angry if my child’s classes were cancelled if there was not an overt threat.

These ‘malicious happenings’ are probably as phony as most other incidents on campuses. They are done, or in many cases simply falsely reported by leftists to cause turmoil. The pattern emerged a long time ago, and I don’t believe them.

“This event, in addition to the series of other hate-related incidents on campus, has precipitated our decision to suspend formal classes and all non-essential activities for today, Monday, March 4, 2013, and gather for a series of discussions of the challenging issues that have faced our community in recent weeks.”

So if carried out with precise timing.........Spring break for faculty starts two weeks early this spring.

During their gathering of intellectual giants, would it be too much to get them to commit to the spelling of Afrika / Africana / Africa?

It seems to be a complex puzzle yet to be figured out despite naming buildings and such.

College spokesman Scott Wargo said that statements were written on posters all over campus. According to a letter on the college’s website, there was a report Monday morning of a person wearing a hood and robe resembling a Klu Klux Klan outfit near Edmonia Lewis Center and the Afrikan Heritage Center.

Oberlin's been a hotbed of leftwingers since the civil war. If there really was somebody dressed as a Klansman, the cops would have been all over it in a manner of a couple of minutes (Oberlin's a tiny little burg), it wouldn't have been some sort of vague rumor of "a report", it would have been recorded on every cell phone camera on campus, and the perp would be arrested, complete with pictures to all corners of the world.

We all know that terrible imaginary hate crimes proliferate in the minds of people wherever liberals exceed the carrying capacity of the land. We know also how, sometimes, just sometimes, some of the more committed liberals, make this stuff up to polish their "anti-racist" credentials.

I'd bet that this is one of those cases.

I agree the culprit is probably a leftist posing as a right wing lunatic. If you were able to take an honest poll, you would likely find over 95% of Oberlin students are well trained, compliant albeit apathetic leftists. Maybe a sixties era radical graybeard is doing it to try to shake them up.

From 2007:

Another Fake Noose/Hate Incident
hotair.com/archives/2007/12/02/another-fake-noosehate-incident
This one occurred in a Baltimore firehouse. Like the swastikas at GWU last month, it also turns out to have been a hoax to create victims where there were none. . . .
Marvin L. “Doc” Cheatham, president of the NAACP’s Baltimore chapter, referred to the note as a threat and said it should be treated as such.
“It’s got to go federal,” Cheatham said. . .
Meanwhile, still no word on Columbia University’s noose incident.

Yup, that’s usually what turns out to be the case, especially when these things happen on college campuses. I wouldn’t be surprised if this “Africana Studies department”, or some campus Diversity Coordinator, needs to justify their continued funding.
