Army Spokesman Reminds Employees and Civilians Not to Criticize Commander in Chief
The Weekly Standard ^ | 3/5/13 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 03/05/2013 8:11:42 AM PST by Nachum

“It’s not meant for contractors… It wasn’t intended for contractors,” said Abney of the email, which details how folks should deal with the press because of sequestration (mandatory spending cuts).

But, Abney conceded, he “can’t swear” that contractors—that is, civilians—did not receive the message either. In fact, at least some of the 6,000 contractors that work with JMC received the message.

The message was “intended to remind our employees that they are not spokespersons for the government,” said Abney on the phone today.

Abney says he was just reminding employees that the commander in chief—President Barack Obama—is their boss.

Here's the full text of the email, which was written by Abney:

-----Original Message-----

From: Larson, Angela M CIV (US) Sent: Friday, March 01, 2013 5:59 PM To: USARMY RIA JMC List DL All JMC Pers Subject: Sequestration - Media Tips

To JMC employees,

Because of media interest in sequestration and furlough, you may be approached or contacted by a reporter at some point and asked to comment.

If you don't wish to speak with a reporter, politely decline.

If you agree to be interviewed, remember that you're expressing your personal opinion, not that of anyone else - and certainly not the opinion of JMC or the Army.

Hmmmm... Well, we're Obama's boss and he criticizes us ALL THE FLIPPIN' TIME!

Seems like turnabout is fair play.

(You don't need to remind me about protocol, I know about all that...)

A guy can dream, can't he?

They always tell us to contact the Public Affairs Officer. I think that is the safest way to go. I never understood talking to the media about anything. They are not your friend at all.

The full quote from the memo:

” Avoid giving an answer that might be perceived as criticism of the Commander in Chief or any political party.”

I believe that a curious thing is occurring: the more the poor clown in the White House demands respect the less he actually receives! Have you noticed his administration spends an inordinate amount of time formally demanding tokens of respect. For example it has been demanded that he be called "The President," not Mr. Obama.

Apparently people like him, however I think that they simply donot respect him.

The memo writers didn’t get the memo:

He is not their boss. He even said, “I am not a dictator”. So there.

The military is put in a terrible postition when the electorate, for whom they work, gives the military a prez who despises them - and, yes, it goes both ways. The prez must respect the military he’s not their boss, he
s the Commander in chief. It’s bad for morale and order to show lack of respect esp in the media.

Does anyone know what a servicemember can and cannot say and in what situations?

It’s my understanding that they can go to a peaceful protest off duty in civilian clothes and say whatever they want, providing they are not advocating violence, advocating treason, advocating overthrow of the military or the gov’t, etc - and do not identify themselves as members of the military.

Or...if you talk to the press, remember to praise, bow down to, and worship obama.

I will have been dead a long time before I would do that.

Very poorly written. We get these emails all the time. Just tell email recipient that if you are approached by a reporter, to refer said reporter to the appropriate public affairs office, period, end of sentence. Geez, no need for any other embellishment.

What a joke.

99% of so-called 'reporters' are Obama butt-kissers. Yeah, like they're going to go out there an try to discredit THE ONE. This is so stupid it's painful. Like the New York Times is going to interview privates to discredit Obama. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

The other thing is this: reporters don't quote people in a negative way who fall below the level of 'public person'. It's why there's NEVER a comment from a beat cop that slams the city. Ever wonder about that? Below a certain level and the person has the right to sue... sue the paper - sue the network - whatever.

The press knows the rules.

The guy who put out the warning either got the same warning himself ( and if he's a high enough level it might count) - or he's a thug.)...

It is rather difficult to "like" a malignant narcissist and arrogant Stalinist thug whose purpose in life is to destroy this country.
