Over what distance?
I was coaching a u14 boys ice hockey team. We played a non checking game against a u18 girls team. Girls were beating up on us. Every time we tried to take the puck, a player would be called for a penalty.
Well the girls started taking liberties with my players, slashing and holding them. The refs refused to call anything. My kids didn’t say a word. They kept playing, acting like sportsmen. In the middle of the second period, down 5-0 I called time. I told the ref to please tell the other coach that unless this stops immediately I will start practicing our dump and chase game.
The ref goes over there, says something to the coach and the coach looks over to me and laughs. Puck drops, their center spears one of my kids right in front of the ref. No call.
About a minute later we dump the puck and my biggest player follows their defenseman into the corner and CRUNCH! They had to take her off the ice with a shovel. Their coach goes nuts. The ref puts our player in the box. I look over to their coach and smiling I tell him I have 8 more penalties I can take and we still have 20 minutes to play.
Needless to say, the girls would no longer go after the puck, nor did they take any more liberties with my players. 10 goals later, game ends, we win 10-5. In the handshake line the coach starts yelling at me. Very calmly I tell him my kids were willing to play a clean, non checking game, but his kids wanted to play like thugs.
The girl who got creamed? Stopped playing girls hockey and joined a boys high school team.
