SANTA ANA – A Stanton man convicted of murdering a woman and a string of rapes is a "gentle, soft-spoken" person who grew up in a dysfunctional home without parental guidance and should not be put to death, a defense attorney told an Orange County jury Wednesday.

In her opening remarks to jurors who last week found Waymon Livingston, 29, guilty of the murder of Melissa Ann Gonzalez, 21, of Sacramento during a sexual assault, attorney Gassia Apkarian told jurors to look at her client's life before making their decision.

don’t we all feel squishy sorry for this poor victim of society?

NOT.

If they don’t have the death penalty, sentence him to life producing rape whistles.

If there’s a “string of women” he assaulted then I wouldn’t say it’s “out of character” for him. Stoooopid lawyer.

Hey, the lawyer's got to play the hand they were dealt. If that's all she's got to go with, that's all she's got. It doesn't mean she's stupid, it just means she has a bad client.

In fairness, she is only doing her job. The system cannot work unless the accused are afforded vigorous representation.

We, of course, are not obliged to buy her bovine fertilizer.

Maybe she meant the fact that he only killed the one.

Raping women is, obviously, quite in his character.

Actually what it means is that Lawyers have no limits to the depths they will sink to in order to rake in their fee.

If there were justice the lawyer would be sitting in his lap when they shot the juice to him.

Not as tough as Melissa Ann Gonzalez had it on the day he murdered her.

I imagine the lawyer was a PD on salery so she would get the same fee no matter who she was defending. Every killer is entitled to a fair defense before being hanged.

California doesn’t have a death penalty.

It has a death row penalty.
