Trayvon Martin Case: Zimmerman's defense team deposes victim's girlfriend and family, report says

(CBS) SANFORD, Fla. - George Zimmerman's defense team has deposed Trayvon Martin's girlfriend, father, mother and brother, case records say, according to the Orlando-Sentinel. PICTURES: George Zimmerman faces murder charge

According to the paper, Mark O'Mara, the lead defense attorney for the former neighborhood watch leader accused of fatally shooting Florida teen Trayvon Martin, took the sworn account of the victim's girlfriend last week.

The girlfriend is considered a crucial witness in the trial because she was reportedly on the phone with Trayvon shortly before he was shot by Zimmerman.

The 29-year-old Zimmerman is scheduled to go on trial in June on charges of second-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty, claiming he acted in self-defense when he shot the 17-year-old in February 2012.

It is unclear exactly what Trayvon's girlfriend told Zimmerman's attorneys when they spoke with her last week at a Miami office of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, but according to the paper, O'Mara was expected to challenge her on certain statements she has made in the past.

The girlfriend, who was 18 at the time of the shooting, initially told prosecutors that Trayvon described a man who was following him and scaring him when she spoke to him over the phone on the night of the shooting. She also reportedly told Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Travyon's family, that she heard Trayvon and the man exchange words that night before the phone call disconnected.

According to the Orlando-Sentinel, the defense team may be trying to attack the girlfriend's credibility because she allegedly gave false statements about her age and why she did not attend Trayvon's funeral.

Trayvon's father, mother, brother and three other witnesses were also deposed by the defense last week, the paper reports.

Interesting that all these depositions were videotaped.

I wonder if they were all accompanied by attorney and who that attorney was and just how closely connected that attorney was to the Crump Law Firm???

Also Witness 8 is deposed on the 13th and then the Motion for the Reconsideration of the Crump’s Deposition is filed the next day.

She’s already lied when she claimed to be in the hospital.

I can’t wait to see her picked apart under oath.

The race card was dealt from the bottom of the deck in this hand with full approval of the socialist democratic frauds infested in the MSM. It doesn’t get more pathetic than that.

Her cell phone records are a big issue, too. I would not be surprised to learn that she was not speaking to Trayvon during the incident, as she claimed she was, the it was all made up by Crump and she went along. Her statement about what happened was too contrived, and did not fit the witness statements of people who were actually there. Would be nice if her cell phone does not show a call with Trayvon at the time—or ever. She may be completely phony.

If Obama had a son he would look like Zimmerman.

I wonder at what point the state attorney will offer GZ a plea deal.....because their case is falling apart for 2 nd degree murder...

Probably offer him negligent homicide or something less...with time served and 10 years probation.... If he promises not to sue...

Zimmerman won't accept, if he has any sense. The moment he pleads guilty to ANYTHING, the floodgates will open for all the lawsuits that Trayvon's family will want to issue.

That boat already sailed. I think at this point the prosecution would like to have a deal offered to them.

I wonder at this point how far this judge is willing to go to keep Ben Crump from being put under oath.

Now that Witness 8 has been deposed she may be forced to relent or really look clueless and have her intransigence appealed.

Hopefully the defense can hold onto Witness 8's deposition for awhile until big sis makes her decision.

If this case was not pushed by the Black KKK, it would have been dropped a long time ago. The state has no case.....and it is wasting my taxpayer money

2014 can’t come soon enough to vote out these morons.... many of those involved are GOP

Well they had her for atleast 2.5 hours and their bringing her back for more, according to the Orlando Slantinel:

“Zimmerman’s attorneys did not finish questioning the 19-year-old woman, his office said, and will schedule another session.”

Maybe they will bring some snacks this time.

I may be mistaken... But why can’t the state offer a deal at any time right up to before the actual trial?

Florida news.

All of this stuff that has been helpful to George Zimmerman’s case has been dutifully ignored by the in tank liberal Miami media.

They can but why would Zimmerman even consider it.

The state has no case — period.

For 6 months the defense had been asking the prosecution for the hospital records of Witness 8 — and the night before they are to go to court on the Motion the state admits there aren’t any thus destroying the credibility of the state’s only witness and the state’s case.

They are just dragging this thing out hoping by some miracle that some witness will agree to commit blatant perjury for the benefit of the state — but it ain’t gonna happen.

The defense has laid a trail of Motions that document prosecutorial misconduct and grounds for an appeal if one is necessary.

And we haven’t even gotten to the phone data yet and what the prosecution has done with it.

It isn’t the defense that is worried about the next shoe to drop. It’s the prosecution and its surrogates.

At the next hearing BDLR will probably be wearing Depends.
