MILLER: RIP national ‘assault weapon’ ban
The Washington Times ^ | 19 March, 2013 | Emily Miller

President Obama said getting a national “assault weapon” ban was one of his major policy goals of the year. He has already failed.

Gun control efforts on the nation level lost a major battle when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told a bereft Sen. Dianne Feinstein Monday that her so-called assault weapon ban bill was getting pulled from the gun package coming to the floor next month. Her legislation, which passed the SenateJudiciary Committee last week by a straight party line vote, is the only one of the four gun-related bills that passed out of committee that Mr. Reid axed.

Gun control is *not* popular, except in carefully controled "push polls".

If asked, do you favor commonsense controls on assault weapons to save children from demonic murderers?

Most people who do not follow poliltics closely, will say yes.

When they are given a chance to be educated as to the actual effects and provisions of the real law, they say "No!"

Agreed.

This whole issue is NOT dead.

They can still attach amendments to other bills to get what they want.

The 2014 election is America’s last firewall.

We lose the House it is game over for our country.

We need to get vote fraud by machine exposed, and we need to get the message out to friends, family, co-workers and neighbors that Democrats are the enemies of freedom and their policies will ruin everyone financially.

A whisper campaign is one of the most effective tools known to man.

Seems to me that there’s really no need for a “National AWB Bill”, since many of the states are doing it themselves and in far more Draconian ways than Di-Fine-Swine’s AWB. Am I wrong?

As a rhetorical question, I think you are wrong. There are only a few states where an AWB is in existance, and fewer where it may be enacted.

Of course the “need” is completely false.

Okay; you’re right. I forgot about enactment and voting it down and court challenges. The “need” is purely Fine-Swine’s ego requiring exercise and self-gratification, so to speak..

It will be back, again and again.

They're only biding their time until the next mass shooting tragedy.

I don’t think we should make the mistake of writing off this ban. I read somewhere where the plan was to simply reattach it to the bill as an amendment.

“They can still attach amendments to other bills to get what they want.”

Thats what i’m thinking, they’ll just bury it in a 1500 page bill and sneak it through.

But I do believe in providing kids weapons and trainng to defend themselves as a means of common sense controls on assault weapons. What kid shouldn’t know to lead a target, check behind the target for possible issues, sight and breath control, finger off the trigger until ready to shoot, etc?????

(do I need a sarc tag when I’m being honest?)
