Do you have an opinion on the Gideon decision?

No.

Give it up. You can’t argue with people who wear their ignorance as a badge of honor.

According to Wikipedia, she was appointed associate justice by William Weld (RINO) and made chief justice by Paul Cellucci (RINO). When she retired in 2010 her replacement, by Deval Patrick, was the first black justice to sit on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. I don't know anything about him but assume he must be at least as liberal as she was or he wouldn't have been picked.

The Wikipedia article on Anthony Lewis includes this gem of a quote, from March 17, 1975:

"What future possibility could be more terrible than the reality of what is happening to Cambodia now?"

Wonderful--a quote that makes Lewis look like one of the biggest idiots of the 20th century. That was just before the Khmer Rouge takeover.

I have not advocated any of his views, but “Gideon’s Trumpet” is a good read on a landmark SCOTUS decision.

Furthermore, he was a writer and each of his opinion pieces could have been countered in other papers.

However, decisions by politicians and judges cannot be countered by simply writing a column.

Writers are harmless, politicians and judges can do harm.

LOL, why am I not surprised the resident moderate rumpswab would show up on this thread to offer support to another poster who defends the snotty liberal, Tony Lewis?

I have been aware of that book but I don't think I ever looked at it.

Since he was Jewish, naturally he sided with Gideon and not with the Midianites.

Nobody speaks up for the Midianites. No gratitude for them giving refuge to Moses when he fled from Pharaoh.

Not moderate, just honest and sane - the way conservatives are supposed to be.

Conservatives do not fear liberal writers.

Conservatives do not believe that their nation can be destroyed by a liberal writer.

Conservatives understand that if a liberal writes a piece in the NYT that they can respond with a piece countering the liberal argument in the Washington Times, the New York Post, the LA Times or a personal blog.

Conservatives can and will win with words and do not roll over on their back and urinate when they see a liberal column.

So let me get this straight - - you don’t believe the Democrat “mainstream” newsrooms have, for decades, had significant influence over the ignorant chattering class and its voting habits? Do you also believe that members of a Mafia gambling ring would make good referees at a championship basketball game?

You should see about getting your head extracted from your behind.

From what I have read, the readership of the major mainstream newspapers and the viewership of mainstream TV news has been declining and if it is declining it can only mean that their influence is also declining.

On the other hand, readership of conservative news sites and blogs has been increasing and that has aided in the power of the Tea Party and the empowering of conservative Republican candidates and statesmen.

Again, liberal writers do not destroy the country by writing about Supreme Court decisions that have already taken place.

Those decisions from Roe v. Wade to Kelo v. City of New London to the Obamacare Decision do devastate our nation and those decisions would have taken place with or without liberal writers from the NYT.

Wrong.

The scumbag liberal newsrooms, with the help of scum like Tony Lewis, have influenced voters for decades, and that influence has always been in favor of the rats, including rat presidents - - rat presidents who appoint rat Supreme Court justices - - who dismiss the Constitution and render rat rulings.

I do agree that the scumbag Democrat newsrooms are dying - - thankfully - - and that the conservative "new" media is ascending. However, the damage has been done and it may be too late for America.

The United States of America is now nothing more than a land mass populated by cretins, ingrates, and parasites who have absolutely no respect for the military and who vote for big government to confiscate money from their neighbors so that it may be “redistributed” to them in exchange for their votes. It is not an America worth defending anymore. That America no longer exists.

The moochers outnumber the producers now, and there’s no going back. America is dead.
The Democrats have won.

Even most immigrants, legal and illegal, don't come to America anymore because they want to be "Americans" - - they come here to vote Democrat and steal whatever they can by proxy, through their eager Democrat politicians. It's a shame. America had a great run, but nothing lasts forever.

You may want to review your landmark and tragic Supreme Court decisions and which political party brought them upon us.

Of the seven justices that voted in the majority on Roe. v. Wade, FIVE were appointed by Republican presidents.

In National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius the deciding vote was cast by John Roberts who was appointed by a Republican president.

And it is quite likely that two Supreme Court justices appointed by Republican presidents will soon vote against Prop 8 and against DOMA.

Finally, when a writer pens a column about a SCOTUS decision after the decision has been handed down, the column in question in no way influences the decision.

I didn't realize that's all that dead scumbag Lewis did in his 50-year career - - write a column about a SCOTUS decision. Anyway, MOST of the votes cast in those Constitution-defying rat rulings were cast by rats, even if a few votes were added by Republican appointees.

“MOST of the votes cast in those Constitution-defying rat rulings were cast by rats, even if a few votes were added by Republican appointees.”

That assumption is simply incorrect.

Let’s review the Roe v. Wade and how each of the Justices voted and who appointed each Justice.

Voting in the Majority-

Harry Blackmun Appointed by Nixon (Republican)
Warren E. Burger Appointed by Nixon (Republican)
William O. Douglas Appointed by Roosevelt (Democrat)
William J. Brennan Appointed by Eisenhower (Republican)
Potter Stewart Appointed by Eisenhower (Republican)
Thurgood Marshall Appointed by Johnson (Democrat)
Lewis F. Powell Appointed by Nixon (Republican)

Voting in the Minority-

William Rehnquist Appointed by Nixon (Republican)
Byron White Appointed by Kennedy (Democrat)

If you would like to discuss actual facts, instead of wild assumptions, I will discuss facts.

And that fact is that Five of the Seven votes for Roe were by Justices appointed by Republican presidents. Only one Justice appointed by a Republican voted against Roe.

Roe v. Wade is a Monster brought to you and 50,000,000 dead children by the GOP.

You cite one case from 40 years ago. Congratulations. Republican versus Democrat appointees - - no difference, no difference at all.
I stand corrected.

And to segue back to the original point the scumbag Democrat newsrooms, including that scumbag Tony Lewis, that dominated (actually, monopolized) the selection, spin, and dissemination of the daily news for 40 years had no effect on elections and politics, no effect at all. You have proved your point. You’re a genius.

I can cite a case from a year ago where our Chief Justice, who was appointed by a Republican, voted to impose Socialized Medicine and Death Panels on Americans.

I can cite a case from ten years ago where a Justice appointed by a a Republican wrote the majority opinion which made sodomy a Constitutional Right.

You do realize that Roberts cast the deciding vote?

He's a moron.
Are you an apologist for the FOUR Democrat scumbags who each ALSO cast "deciding votes"?

You do realize that Roberts cast the deciding vote?

"Deciding vote", LMBO!
You're a moron, too.
