There'll Be No War, N.Korea Assures Chinese Tourists

A senior North Korean official has assured Chinese tour operators that there will be no war on the Korean Peninsula. The assurance came at a time when the North is ratcheting up its belligerent rhetoric.

Visiting Xian in Shaanxi Province in mid-March, Kim To-jun of the North's General Bureau of Tourism, told Chinese tour operators, "Don't worry. There'll be no war on the Korean Peninsula, so send as many tourists as possible."

The regime is expected to resume package tours in July via non-stop flights between Xian and Pyongyang. The route opened in July 2011 and the package tours started a year later.

A source speculated, "It seems that the North is trying to make money by assuring Chinese people that there is no danger of war, while the threats against South Korea are mostly for domestic political purposes.”

I cannot imagine North Korea as a great tourist stop.

But Maybe Obama could send his two daughters over there, it would probably raise the economy of the whole country.

“The 105-story, pyramid-shaped Ryugyong Hotel, whose foundations were poured almost three decades ago, will open partially in July or August, Kempinski AG Chief Executive Officer Reto Wittwer said today at a forum in Seoul. The German luxury-hotel manager will be the first western hospitality company to operate in North Korea, he said.

“This pyramid monster hotel will monopolize all the business in the city,” Wittwer said. “I said to myself, we have to get this hotel if there is ever a chance, because this will become a money-printing machine if North Korea opens up.”

You might want to take a closer look...

Most of those girls probably don't tip the scales at 80 lb's... many less..

Quite a few look out right malnourished...

What scares me is that under this war frenzy in N.Korea some local commander will crack and open fire starting a chain reaction that Dear Leader will not be able to contain. It nearly happened with a nuclear exchange between the Soviets and the US in 1983 and only a single Russian officer with a cooler head saved the world from Armageddon.

Same concern here. These threads are full of all the cute remarks but that incident makes one consider just how easy it would be for a stupid incident to light it up.
