Like old soldiers, it’s time for John McCain to just fade away

Posted April 9, 2013 14:50 by Rick Adams with 1 comment

According to Breitbart.com’s April 7th, 2013 article titled, “McCain: ‘I don’t understand’ filibustering gun control,” Senator John McCain expressed bewilderment on CBS’ “Face the Nation” that GOP Sens. Cruz, Lee and Paul would filibuster gun control legislation. “I don’t understand it,” McCain said. “The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.”

McCain’s comments should set off alarms in every Republican, Conservative, and Libertarian household. He’s the poster child for how intellectually bankrupt the old guard of the Republican Party has become.

The Second Amendment should never be up for debate. The Second Amendment should never be allowed to be undermined by the political whims of the day on either the House or Senate floor. To even consider NOT filibustering ANY gun control bill, even if it means tying up the Senate through the next election if need be, is a direct affront to the main foundational principles upon which this country was founded.

To quote Mahatma Gandhi, “All compromise is based on give and take, but there can be no give and take on fundamentals. Any compromise on mere fundamentals is a surrender. For it is all give and no take.” In other words, McCain’s overriding fealty towards his notion of Senate decorum and protocol insults every foundational principle upon which many of our nation’s service members gave away all of their tomorrows for our todays. If he is willing to subject hallowed foundational principles to debate and a vote, he is willing to compromise away most anything we hold dear on our side of the aisle.

It is McCain’s number one duty to protect the Constitution, which includes the Bill of Rights, against all threats. Accordingly, it is his duty to protect the Second Amendment, without which no other right can withstand assault.

Even with the perceived innocuous attempts to legislate away guns from the mentally ill, these assaults should be aggressively fought, as well. If liberals have taught us anything, they have taught us that any inch yielded will ALWAYS be perverted and twisted into an unwieldy kilometer.

Everyone educated in how the liberal establishment operates knows only too well that this mental illness angle is nothing more than a Trojan horse for future mental gymnastics by their federal and state bureaucracies that THEY OWN lock, stock, and barrel. Liberal bureaucrats WILL change the definition of what is mentally ill over time. We, and/or our children, will someday be labeled mentally ill if we show reverence to the Judeo/Christian world view, hold dear the Bill of Rights, hold fast to the proven fact that Global Warming is nothing but a hoax, don’t believe that animals are equal to humans, etc. Only those with extremely limited intellectual horizons will suggest otherwise.

It’s time for the Old Guard to bow out. McCain, and others that think like him, need to leave the Party, to minimize the damage they cause to the country. They need to just fade away.

References: Quotes by our founding fathers, H/T: godseesyou.com:

“Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people’s liberty teeth and keystone under independence … From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable . . . the very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference – they deserve a place of honor with all that is good” (George Washington)

“The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” — (Thomas Jefferson)

“No Free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.” (Thomas Jefferson, Proposal Virginia Constitution, 1 T. Jefferson Papers, 334, [C.J.Boyd, Ed., 1950])

“And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms….The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants” (Thomas Jefferson in a letter to William S. Smith in 1787. Taken from Jefferson, On Democracy 20, S. Padover ed., 1939)

“The supposed quietude of a good mans allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside…Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them…” (Thomas Paine, I Writings of Thomas Paine at 56 [1894])

“…but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and use of arms, who stand ready to defend their rights…” (Alexander Hamilton speaking of standing armies in Federalist 29.)

“The right of the people to keep and bear…arms shall not be infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country…” (James Madison, I Annals of Congress 434 [June 8, 1789])

“Americans have the right and advantage of being armed – unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.” (James Madison, The Federalist Papers #46 at 243-244)

“That the said Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press or the rights of conscience; or to prevent the people of The United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms…” (Samuel Adams, Debates and Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, at 86-87 (Peirce & Hale, eds., Boston, 1850))

“Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?” (Patrick Henry, 3 J. Elliot, Debates in the Several State Conventions 45, 2d ed. Philadelphia, 1836)

I always thought one of the duties of a Senator was to protect my Constitutional rights, Not to discuss how to steal them.

I even thought they took an oath.

Obviously McCain doesn’t understand this oath or his duties.

Senator McCain you need to move on, it’s not like you need the pay, and every day you make a bigger fool of yourself.

Senator McCain was near the bottom of his Annapolis class and he is struggling to reach the bottom of the Senat, and succeeding greatly.

Why was he at the bottom of his clas. he didn’t understand.

John McStain, went down in flames,
Became enemy gains,
Became a hero for his pains,
Became a senator, accumulated shame,
Begat fat daughter, movable by crane,
Ran for president, quietly and tame,
Lost badly, just the same,
Go away, John McStain

His welcome is over. Wish a fair wind and a following sea. Pity the man who overstays his welcome. Guests like fish smell after three days. We salute your service and sacrifice. Your noble linage or pedigree. Margaret Thatcher proclaimed “roosters may crow but the hens lay the eggs.”

John McCain’s time is thankfully up, over, finished and abused. Fade away with dignity before you melt into mediocrity.

McCain was a war hero a long time ago and then came Abscam and he was compromised forever .... the left has owned him ever since. Murtha was the same way.

McCain is an egomaniac whose life revolves around being the Republican authority the media turns to for comments and the supposedly conservative guest on the Sunday talk shows. In order to remain the darling of the media he must tow the progressive line and continue playing the “maverick”. Unfortunately, McCain loves himself more than he loves his country.

John McCain will not fade away gracefully. His ego cannot stand to be out of the limelight. He will either be thrown out by the voters or die in office like Robert Byrd.
