(Newser) – McDonald's is attributing its recent struggles to the less-than-sunny dispositions of the teenagers taking your order. "Service is broken," declared a slide in a webcast for franchise owners last month. Customer complaints have been rising, executives told the franchisees, with "rude or unprofessional employees" topping the list, the Wall Street Journal reports. About 1 in 5 complaints related to friendliness, while others were about speed of service.
One study last year gave McDonald's one of the worst drive-thru service times in the business, and the second-worst friendliness rating, ahead of only Burger King. "The new leadership has decided to focus on customer satisfaction as a real driver for us," one franchisee said. But it's unclear how much McDonald's can do as a corporation, given that 90% of its US restaurants are owned by individual franchisees. "I think it's an ongoing problem, and it always will be," another franchisee says

I generally have great/good service at all fast food EXCEPT McDonald’s in my area. The difference between it and the other places I frequent in my suburb is the McDonald’s here, for whatever reason, seem to mostly if not all black employees. Not sure why.
Does anyone notice that when we talk about food we have contributions from people all over the country!? I’m talking to everyone from California to Florida. I find that amazing and thrilling.

The people that work t ALL of the fast food places in my burb, no matter if white, black are friendly. The McDonald’s though always make me pull over to wait, and 50% of the time, forget something. The other places tend to get it right and fast, majority of the time.
The only time I’ve ever paid $7 for a burger at In-N-Out was when I was feeling naughty enough to order a 4x4. If you stick to the regular menu, that sum will get you an entire meal, even with a Double-Double.
I also weep for America and the cesspool it has become all because those in power love illegal aliens, perverts and those who hate and want to destroy the country from within, instead of upholding and obeying the U.S. Constitution, the laws of our nation and most of all loving and respecting: American CITIZENS!... Yes I am yelling, but the power elite in D.C. refuse to hear the cries of their constituents.
Most have not been teenagers for decades! I left them in 98’ and I can tell you for fact that at least in Southern California most employees were English is my way ,way second language! You could hardly get a teen to apply, where I was at the time Mom and Dad had too much money to give the kids and everyone was telling them that working in fast food was the last job anyone should take! And my take on McD’s is they have completely lost their way since Ray died. I could tell you tales of inept corporate decisions that would make you cringe.
Then quit hiring them...

I went on a date with a lovely woman who works at a McDonald’s. She told me of how friendliness to customers is of top importance, and she described clearly what is going on... the problem is not “Service is broken”... the problem is that the ever expanding entitlement culture of this nation is bringing forward the lowest of the low as customers. “Customers are broken” is more like it...
She told me of the horrors of working the drive through... young punk teenaged boys driving jacked up pickup trucks ordering thinks that are not on the menu... some sort of sandwich that takes a McDouble and adds a chicken pattie to it... she accomodates them and modifies the order so they get exactly the trendy sandwich that kids are ordering and they get all upset because they themselves don’t know what this “street named” sandwich is (I wish I could remember the name) and see it being “built” on the drive-thru screen with all the substitutions and additions and they pitch a fit because they hadn’t taken their Ritalin that day.
On the other side of the coin from the spoil brat rich kiddies in big trucks with big exhaust pipes... are what this woman called “ghetto trash”... she didn’t hestitate at all explaining how big, black women that can’t speak english are a problem at the drive-thru. One bovine asked for “3 large Cokes” and so when she punched up “3 Large Cokes” on the screen the heiffer started to scream at her saying she didn’t want Coke, she wanted 2 orange sodas and a diet Dr. Pepper.
Customer service isn’t “Broke”... American consumers are just disrepectful, cradle to grave parasites on decent society.
I can say this because I am not trying to sell hamburgers and McNuggets to people who deserve to starve.

That seems to be the case at pretty much every In-N-Out I’ve visited. And if I’ve ever had someone there take my order who spoke English as a second language, they have obviously put some effort in learning to speak it.
I worked at a Wendy’s for a couple years while I was in college. I can’t say I enjoyed working there, but I NEVER got tired of the food!
Hmmm...haven’t been there since mid-winter but we had a menu that asked you what extras or toppings you wanted with additional costs. Maybe I have made a mistake. Something, I can assure you, I never, never do!
How about an order taker that speaks English?
I always compliment the taker when I pick up the order, if they’re plain English speaking.
I can tell you that the North McDonald’s in Kirksville, Missouri has amazing people working the drive thru in the morning/early afternoon. I used to work with developmentally disabled people and every day we went to the Mickey D’s drive thru. They always greeted my clients by name and would make sure to give me a cup of ice and extra hot mustard nuggets sauce for a certain client without being asked most of the time.
One of the two in my neighborhood had a very bad vibe and is now closed “for renovation.” The last time I was there, the cute server let a good-looking guy jump in front of me in line, and then when I made a fuss she apologized to HIM for my making a fuss.
Almost all other times I have been there some kind of a problem of that kind has occurred.
And I agree the food is a cardboard replica of what it used to be.
I had my first Whatburger last month in Jacksonville, TX! I thought it was very good... very expensive though, 2 sandwiches with fries and a drink, and a garden salad with no dressing was like $20.
Glad that In-n-Out has made it to TX... it is good stuff, was always a great treat to have when visiting my brother in LA.
