Ceremonial funeral for Margaret Thatcher is a 'mistake', says Bishop of Grantham

The Bishop of Grantham has branded the decision to give Baroness Thatcher a ceremonial funeral with full military honours a "mistake".

The Rt Rev Tim Ellis, speaking from Lady Thatcher's birthplace in Lincolnshire on Sunday, said the funeral was "asking for trouble" and should be "more low-key and personal".

More than 800 personnel from the Armed Forces units that played a key part in the Falklands conflict will line the route of the funeral procession from the Palace of Westminster to St Paul's Cathedral in London on Wednesday. It is thought the funeral will cost in the region of £8 million.

Police have said they are braced for trouble from protesters after a series of 'parties' celebrating Lady Thatcher's death were held last week.

The Rt Rev Tim Ellis said: "I am not surprised by the parties which show that events of 30/40 years ago still engender that kind of violent reaction because her reign was very divisive and controversial, and people still remember that today.

The Bishop of Grantham is wrong, she deserves great respect. It is due her.

I have no use for the English King/Queen bull, but Thatcher was an icon and an English Patriot. The Idiot Left in England should shut their mouth.

I'd prefer hearing from the Earl of Grantham in "Downton Abbey" than this Bishop of Grantham twit.

The Rt Rev Tim Ellis appears to be among the 98% of C of E clergymen who give the other 2% a bad name.

So just dump her corpse in a quiet country ditch somewhere and pretend that she never existed, much less served at the UK’s longest standing PM...is that what these lunatics want?

Her democratically elected government (U.S. American: "administration") was in power; it is incorrect to refer to that as a "reign."

It is thought the funeral will cost in the region of £8 million. That means it will cost 12,276,000 million dollars. Baroness Thatcher would be outraged. She was for saving money. If that number is correct than they are going against Margaret Thatcher’s wishes for her funeral.

...her reign was very divisive and controversial...

So in other words, only people whose views he agrees with deserve that honor.

Anyone got any idea why it is apparently impossible for anyone with integrity and a microphone to say “We really don’t care if it offends you or not”??

Just once and more would follow. That’s what leaders do. And Thatcher did.

.....her reign was very divisive and controversial, and people still remember that today.

Why is this? Was the economy not in shambles, did her policies not turn that around? What is there to "disagree" about? It worked or it didn't.

The meek Anglican’s are used to being bullied by the left.
