Purely speculation (at this point), but maybe the bankroller was the Saudi guy detained and scheduled for deportation and he didn't leave them a debit card. Could be, or perhaps their bomb dropping mission went awry last night and they needed fast cash and a car to attempt an escape.

I’m sure that when they dialled 1-800-MYJIHAD to pick up their plane tickets and passports, the number was disconnected.
That presumably freaked them out.
