"I’ve wondered for years why they didn’t just shoot up random gatherings around the country." They want to terrorize, and get quiet compliance to their demands (let in lots of Muslims, and let them slowly take over).
Too much shooting up of random gatherings would mobilize American sentiment against Islam. If the American people were sufficiently united in being pissed off against Islam, the Muslims are screwed.
