They probably did that to get LE attention and get LE chase them into a “booby trap.” After their pics were posted all over the place by the FBI yesterday evening they had nothing to lose and wanted to go out big. In the Quran, the only explicitly guaranteed way to Paradise is to be killed in battle against the infidel. They may have wanted to take as many cops with them as possible.
