“Sort of like the Cloward Pivens approach to intentionally destroying the country.”

One of the reasons for the miracle of the US was it becoming a melting pot. Immigrants love for liberty and equality of opportunity superseded their ethnic and religious identities. They wanted to be Americans, not Germans, Irish, Swedish, English, Polish, or Italian.

Since the 1960’s the progressives in government and academia have done everything possible to destroy the concept of the melting pot. Through affirmative action and government programs they have emphasized racial, ethnic, and religious differences. Today people identify themselves by their gender, their race, their sexual orientation, or their religion. The concept of being a freedom loving American is virtually gone. The concept of equality of opportunity has been totally destroyed with government now taking the role of deciding winners and losers.

The new immigration policy, with the amnesty and “pathway to citizenship” to follow will destroy what is left of the concept of national identity. We will make somewhere between 10 and 20 million people citizens who entered the country illegally and who will receive full benefits of citizenship without any responsibility. Why would someone who broke the law to become a beneficiary of our welfare state feel any obligation to follow other laws or be a responsible citizen? If we allow them to hold dual citizenship (we likely will), they will feed at our table while maintaining loyalty to another nation. The value of American citizenship will be reduced to eligibility for social welfare benefits.
