Dick's sales, stocks drop following black gun ban

Following the Newtown shooting spree, Dick’s Sporting Goods changed their policy and stopped selling AR-pattern and other semi-automatic, magazine-fed rifles, even the guns they had already sold.If there’s a silver lining for all the people who were eagerly waiting for that Troy Carbine and were vastly dissappointed, it’s that Dick’s isn’t doing so well in the financial department. At a time where the only thing a company has to do to sell firearms, ammo and accessories is to unlock their doors, Dick’s sales have flat-lined. In fact, their sales dropped 2.2 percent  in the fourth quarter of 2012 compared to 2011 and their shares 10 percent in the last quarter.

The Cabela's opened about a month ago a mile away.

The one in Grand Rapids? I stopped there the first week of April.

I was quite disappointed as it is not as big, or as nice as the one in Dundee. They had only been open for about two weeks and had just received a large shipment of ammo. I bought the max of five boxes.

I still like the Dundee store for the better atmosphere.

Very disturbing, indeed.

This not only shows the need for high cap mags,
but also for training.

As soon as that slide locks, you should be behind something, reloading.

Maybe they can make up their lost profits by coming out with a line of “Jason Collins” basketball paraphernalia.

Grand Rapids

Yup.

And it's the only Cabela's I've been in, so I have no basis for comparison.

Bought 200 rounds of .22 LR there Tuesday and Wednesday (100 each day).

Another FRiend calls them "EBRs" (evil black rifles) and his local merchant as the "EBR store". He also builds and accessorizes them for fun.

We keep scanning for new names for the same "black" rifle (even if it's screaming pink-and-white), and came up with MSR (modern sporting rifle).

The current generation of military assault rifles came on the scene about the same time as black plastic was the only inexpensive, strong material for stocks. Except in the USSR, where 1930s-era Bakelite (probably ripped off from us) came in a reddish-orange color. One disadvantage of black is that it is an unnatural color out in the field, and tends to draw the eye to it.

“Black gun” is another euphemism for what a lib would call an “assault rifle.”

Better atmosphere, and a four-hour drive.

Ironic that the new Cabela’s is right next door to a “Target” store.

Better atmosphere, and a four-hour drive.,/i>

I have to pass directly by the Dundee store when I visit home (US 23). I live in Virginia so my drive is about eight or nine hours. I have to divert about eight miles to get to the Grand Rapids store.

It is nice they have opened another even if it is smaller.
