If the President has committed impeachable offenses (and it looks like he has) then he should be impeached, regardless of who controls the majority in the Senate.

When impeachable crimes are committed, the true statesman should step up, and every member of the legislature should formally be put on record as to where he or she stands.

Impeachment is by its nature a political process, not a legal one. It must proceed on principle if the political will exists, and the President will not resign for the good of the country.
