If the malfeasance was merely stupidity and incompetence and then trying to cover up the stupidity and incompelence with stupid incomepent lies, then you would be correct.
But there is obviously much, much more to this - they are covering up illicit gun running from all reports, and wanting all those men dead. So the Rs need to keep on Benghazi like pitbulls. Easing off is the very worst thing they can do. They of course can and should focus on the IRS and AP crimes as well. But they have plenty of people, then can do all of ‘em.
It is possible that you are right, but with Stevens dead and the co-conspirators overseas, this will be a very tough nut to crack.
The IRS stuff, if managed correctly (I know, if your Aunt had....) is a rapid pathway to removal, IMO, since multiple crimes have been suborned and the GS folk involved don’t want to go down.
