If it was such a very very very serious event why wouldn’t Holder just go through proper legal channels to get the records?

Under our all powerful executive branch government, this is not a subpeona in the usual sense, it is an administrative subpeona, it does not require a judge all that is required is for most matters, the subpeona be approved a various levels, those involving politicians and the press require approval at the top of the justice department. After they have run their course, there is a requirement the records seized some time ago be made known to the owner of the records which is what the DOJ was doing when they told the AP: by the way, we got many of your reporter’s telephone records.

Because he knew it would come out and he would smell like roses.

Let’s just hope the loyalists in the underling department doesn’t take it lying down. Although, probably will with a nice fat retirement check.
