Richard Nixon is back in the news. Commentators, pundits, and bloggers are comparing the scandal-plagued Obama administrations record to Tricky Dicks. Faced with a rising tide of Nixon-themed questions, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney responded, people who make those kind of comparisons need to check their history. A quick history check shows one thing: Richard Nixon was a much better president than Barack Obama.

Nixon was far more moderate than us Freepers would like, but he built the coalition that Reagan successfully used.
The Left was terrified of what they saw and probably figured felling Nixon would end it.
Thankfully we got Reagan.
It’s not hard to be better than Barack Obama. Even Jimmy Carter exceeds that goal. Or even Bill Clinton.
But Nixon is the guy who gave us the EPA. Hard to forgive him for that.
I liked David Stockman’s line to Cavuto: Obama is the President Nixon aspired to be.
Nixon fought a democrat controlled congress through his entire tenure, and conceded to them by signing their environmental legislation as an olive branch.
“Nixon was a better, more popular president than Obama...”
By a very considerable margin.
The article points out that even liberals should like Nixon for some of the things he did. And he was way more popular than Obama is. So if a guy re-elected with 49 states can be taken down, the poser in office right now can too.
I think the day Nixon resigned he stil would have beaten McGovern in a hypothetical election.
1972
Nixon
Electoral Votes: 520
Popular Votes: 47,169,911 (60.7%)
George McGovern
Electoral Votes: 17
Popular Votes: 29,170,383 (37.5%)
Nixon also imposed wage & price controls.
Jay Carney has always been good for a laugh.
BUT,
Nixon wasn’t a negro
Nixon did not have the support of the MSM
Yes. Only trouble with that is that whatever you concede to the liberals becomes a permanent problem, whereas anything you manage to push through yourself soon disappears.
The EPA began as a minor concession and has become one of the biggest impediments to freedom and sanity there is.
Same with Nixon’s opening to China. That started out as a way to hopefully split Communist China and and the USSR, but it ended up as the biggest tool of crony capitalists eager to make money by exporting all our jobs abroad.
