I do not understand this.
Firstly, I do not ever keep a round in the chamber. Maybe that’s not a good policy for cops, but to me it’s an accident waiting to happen.
Secondly, my auto pistol, which is a Springfield .40 cal, has two safeties where the gun must be held in the hand thus pressing a plate on the backside of the handle, and the trigger finger must also depress a switch in the trigger before any pulling of the trigger can cause the hammer to hit the firing pin.
Not trying to start anything here, but I respectfully disagree with your “no round in the chamber” philosophy, because especially with your particular weapon, there is a grip safety, drop safety and trigger safety.
It is impossible for the striker to do its job without these safeties disengaged. There just simply is not enough time, when the criminal already has the element of surprise, to chamber a round. Seconds count, IMHO.
“Firstly, I do not ever keep a round in the chamber. Maybe thats not a good policy for cops, but to me its an accident waiting to happen.”
Hey, are you that henchman from the movies that always racks his slide before getting down to business? :)
The XD is striker fired like a Glock, there is no hammer or firing pin. The gun is specifically engineered not to fire unless the 1. Grip safety is engaged and 2. The trigger is pulled to the rear until the striker is released.
I'm reasonably confident the number of loaded XD pistols discharging on their own is "zero".
“Secondly, my auto pistol, which is a Springfield .40 cal...”
I like my XD too, a lot! Mine happens to be .45 acp...
My son is a Deputy Sheriff, and he carry’s a revolver, 357 magnum, because he does not like the Glock, and the XD has not yet been approved by the Dept.
