I have a real problem with the whole "guilty until proven innocent" mindset with these cameras. Cars don't run red lights. People do.
And then they can quietly reduce their yellow light time to manufacture some income for themselves as opposed to actually doing anything to improve public safety on the roads.
Other places are removing them. These guys are really up on things.
They are excellent for target practice, tho pretty expensive targets.
They put red light cameras in our city, promising not to shorten the yellow light time. Well, I don’t drive much, and probably hadn’t driven in a few months, but one morning I did follow my husband out to the mechanics to drop off one of our cars.
First thing I said to him after we had dropped off the car was...”They shortened the yellow lights.” He was doubtful. I guess it was noticeable to me because I hadn’t driven in a while, and it just felt wrong when I was going through an intersection, and the light turned red before it used to.
Sure enough 6 months later the company who installed the cameras admits they shortened the yellow light time, my instincts were right.
“The bill has gained the support of local law enforcement officials, who say the cameras.....”
will ensure a steady stream of money to fund their salaries, benefits and pensions.
OK, that second part was mine, but let’s be realistic.
FU, Rep. Wayne Schmidt, whoever the hell you are.
Those camera stands will be gone in 60 seconds for scrap....
Red Light cameras are not about safety. They are about increasing revenue.
If you have these cameras installed time the length of the yellow lights. Later they will be shortened by a few seconds which results in more people going through red lights and getting tickets.
Here in Houston we forced the city to remove them. They’re nothing more than an automated ripoff tool.
Thank you. Isn’t it amazing what they find time to address while “Rome” (in effect) burns.
Aside from the problems caused by the cameras issuing tickets - even to motorists with no intention of running through red lights - how long do you think the cameras would last on the mean streets of Detroit?
government cares nothing about safety.
all this is, is revenue generation.
they screw around with the light times to trap more people now running redlights.
they shrink the yellow light times and screw people. also they can angle them improperly and claim to catch people running red lights when they aren’t.
At one table we have a camera and at the other table we have the defendent....the camera cannot ask the prosecutor to ask questions for him....its all just that silly...the defendent has a right to question his accuser....I'd like to hear the cameras answers..
Just more ways for a government which can PRINT ITS OWN MONEY.....STILL wants to STEAL MORE OF OURS. Next they will have cameras to make sure you don’t park to far or too close to the curb, put your signal on when you change lanes and make a turn, stop completely at a stop light, don’t accelerate to fast and burn extra gas.
